I just activated my trial edition with a serial number. Now, when I open an image the cursor becomes a stop sign (circle with slash line through it).
Not sure that activation caused this, but I cannot edit my images.
Any ideas appreciated.

create a new image with file> new. describe what happens.

It is a backslash not a slash in the stop sign. On further review it appears this may have been associated with a tool that was selected, or perhaps no tool was selected. I just selected a tool and now the behavior appears to be normal again.
