well im not sure if it is an error message because it says install shield at the top but here is a screen shot of it <http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn182/uthead9/adobeerror.png?t=1226812484> and after that happens it does not move any further.

Ahhh… Your running a silent installation. Are you using a CS4 retail install or another copy?

I apologize I do recall you mentioning that you had a trial. It must have slipped my mind.
Go to <https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?loc=en&promoid=EBYEU&product=photoshop> and download another one. Not sure how you got the version your using but this one should work out for ya.

I'd run the CS3Clean Script and try to install
I have a write up of how to do this if you want to go through with it.

I am having almost the same...it gets to about 37-40% unpacking the install files but I don't get any error message, it "disappears" and nothing else ever happens.

I have heard so many problems with the Windows version of Photoshop CS4 I want to check the trial version. This is the first time any Adobe product has failed to install smoothly. What happened?? If I can't even install the trail I surely can't buy the product!

I currently have CS2 installed on my Dell with one 3.2GHz Xeon and 4GB RAM, 10GB free drive space.

Any help appreciated.

Vista or XP?
check services and turn windows installer to auto
Turn off anti-virus
Turn off windows defender
Turn off any running programs you don't need in msconfig.
Put the folder on windows desktop and run setup program as administrator.
Make sure you install at the default location as the software seems to be happy there.

Depending on how far you got you may have to run the CS4 cleaner and windows uninstaller. There is a section in the help area on what to download and how to do it.

There is a "how to set up" in the help area too.

Adobe recently came out with this document about that issue:
