Update to 11.01 failed twice

Hi,
I just tried to update to 11.01. PS was open the first time, but was closed after the download started the second time. Only my email app-Eudora was open both times.

What now?

Did you use the updater in PS?

Go to adobe.com > downloads > updates and pick up the .zip file. Save it and unzip it, and in the resulting folder is, among other things, a Setup.exe. Run that.

I've been having the same problem, tried it via the CS4 updater and via download then install. Each time I just get the mesaage "update failed to install"

this is the sum of 6 attempts, yesterday evening and today, fresh installs each time (after wiping the previous attempt)

My CS4 updater no longer shows an update available but is also still showing that I still have v11.0

Mogur203 - What error message are you observing and on which operating system ? Close Photoshop while downloading and then try to install again.

Also confirm if updates posted on Adobe.com > downloads > updates work for you.

Win Vista Home Premium, CS4 + all other progs were closed when trying either via Adobe updater or via download and manual install.

Previous updates have worked.

An update to my problems:

following some good assistance from Anshum trying to untangle the problem I finally cracked it the hard way #

- removed AVG8 from my system (it was treating the Adobe installer as if it were a Trojan and sequestered it away in its vaults somewhere)

- then re-installed CS4 on top of my original (but corrupted) install.

A long and boring hassle but problem solved

Mogur203 - Have you checked your anti-virus/firewall apps?

How about downloading the update directly from Adobe and try running it. ACR can be downloaded from Adobe and that plug-in changed manually.

You might be experiencing this issue which has been causing CS4 updates that patch files (instead of replacing them) to fail on some Windows machines. This issue, cause, and solution are documented here:

Please note that the ACR 5.2 update was susceptible to this issue. We believe the ACR 5.3 is not. However, if a previous update of ACR failed due to the root cause, then it can leave your files in a state which will prevent future update from working, simply because they don't find the files in the expected state. In which case, you need to do the complete solution, which involves a clean re-install (sorrry :-(

They forgot to put in de-activate product before un-install in the KB.

There is no need to deactivate the product if you are going to re-install it on the same machine. The activation server has a unique ID for the machine, so if it gets an activation request from a machine that's already one of the two allowed activations, it doesn't take another activation slot.
