Measure Tool CS vs CS4

In CS, I observed and confirmed with other users the following behavior:

1. Use Measure Tool to establish horizon

2. Image > Rotate > Arbitrary

3. Image > Adjust > Levels

At this point, Measure Tool reverts to Eyedropper Tool. For my workflow, this is lots of extra clicking. Would someone please check this in CS4 and see if the Measure Tool stays as Measure Tool? Thanks!

It stay as the Ruler Tool in CS4.

Now on CS4, I can confirm that it stays as a ruler, until I save the file. Then it reverts back to ol' eyedropper. More Shift+I for me!

Is there a way to set the default option for a tool?

This has been a huge complaint for so long that I can't remember when people first started bitching about it. You'd think that by now the programmers could fix this annoyance.

There is a "spring-loaded key" feature in CS4.

Spring-loaded keys (switch from any tool to any other tool temporarily.)

For example you are using the paint brush tool, but you to temporarily use
the dodge tool. Simply hold down the dodge tools keyboard shortcut, use the
tool and then release and you will go back to the brush tool. One word of
warning you can not adjust the temporary tools size, in this case you can't
make the dodge tools brush smaller. You have to actually fully switch to the
tool to do this. It would be nice if you can use the bracket keys and adjust
the temporary tools size like you can when that tool is fully selected. But,
this is a nice start and one of those small things that is going to be much
loved.
