When I right-click on install files, I don't see a 'Version' tab like I used to see with XP. For example, under XP, when I right-click the recent ACR update (Camera Raw.8bi) I see under the Version tab that it's "Written by: Thomas Knoll of Adobe Systems Inc, the version number, its 'internal name, language, etc.."
In Vista Right-Click-> Properties tab offers 'General', 'Digital Signatures', 'Security' and 'Details'. The 'Details' tab does not offer any of this info. It's a bit of bother to not be able to verify the version of a file before installing it.
Am I missing something or are there Vista specific file info tags that Adobe is not providing?
Description
Company
File version
Date created
Size
For more info you can right click and go to Properties.
I don't get that :-)
Perhaps I have a feature turned off. But if I enable "Show pop-up description for folders and desktop items" I get only the file "Type, Size, and Date Modified".
Your answer had me saying "duh...that's pretty easy"... but alas it does not do that here.
Running Vista64.
Adobe DNG Converter.exe
ExtendScript Toolkit.exe
AdobeOwl.dll
adobe_eula.dll
and thay all have the file version and company listed in the details pane as well as in any pop-up (when that feature is enabled).
But so far I cannot find any plugins that display version info.
I see that Genuine Fractals includes a "version.txt' file with the version info.
Perhaps it's a limitation of the plugin format? Or do you really see the version details of Camera Raw.8bi and other plugins ?
Thanks for helping John. I know this isn't a WindowsOS forum. But it relates to updates that Adobe releases which apparently don't include embedded version info that's visible to folks using Vista. I don't assume this isn't going to change with Windows7.
I know this isn't a Windows OS forum.
Was it you in the NT forums a few years back?
Right, I just checked the ACR plug-in and it doesn't give version number.
Only the date gives a clue.
Thanks :-) I at least know now that I'm not missing something.
Was it you in the NT forums a few years back?
Can't remember that. Do you mean an NT newsgroup? I've posted questions in newsgroups once in a while over the years, though I find the activity there a lot less then a years ago. Mostly relaced with web forums.
Didn't know Adobe had an NT forum..
Might have been on Compuserve (in the real old days).
:-)
So... what's the poop on Vista not showing the plugin version? Is there a recommended method to add that info that Adobe's not paying attention to? Or is it as Chris Cox suggests, an overlooked function of Vista?
I keep them in a descriptive folder until they are discarded.
I do the same. Though it would be useful if Adobe included version info and manual install instructions in their ZIP package.
