Hi !
I have a PhotoShop file which I do not manage any more to open. I did not do anything of special. During his last modification, I safeguarded and I left the program. Now, I do not manage any more to open it. There is a message which says “Impossible to carry out this operation because the file is incompatible with this version of Photoshop”. I use Photoshop CS2.

How can I make to recover my file? More especially as that makes the 2nd time that arrives to me.

Thanks for you help :)
(Excuse me for my english, I'm french,I use the automatic translator).

try opening it with image ready or some other 3rd party app that reads psds. if it opens, re-save it with a different name.

this link might help if both photoshop and image ready are unable to open the file

did you try IrfanView (free, in that link i posted)?

if that doesn't do it, it sounds like the file is trashed then.

toby thain, forum regular, has a free (donate if you want) psd recovery tool. try it if irfanview can't open it.

go here:
<http://wwv.telegraphics.com.au/sw/>

scroll down and download the:
Photoshop file (PSD) Extract/Recover tool

This plugin lets you grab image layers from any PSD/PSB file. It's faster
than opening the whole PSD in Photoshop, if you just want a layer. Most
importantly, it can usually recover image layers from corrupted PSD files
that Photoshop won't open (if Photoshop opens with damage, this plugin
recovers a more intact image). Beta version.

he's usually very good about helping with problem files too. he may want to take a look at your damaged file to see if he can update the tool if it can't recover the data as it is... if you need to you can contact him at his site.

IrfanView won't preserve Layers and most other features.

correct, but it might be better than losing the whole thing. and i think toby's util will grab 1 layer at a time so you can get all (or as many as possible) layers each saved to a new file.

if that's his address, i would. or you could wait a few days for him to pop in here, if he sees this thread. like i said, your file may be toast, but toby MIGHT be able to get something out of it for you...

Have you tried Illustrator?

Another possibility is XnView, which is free and shows layers as separate pages, but may not open all of them.
