I recently installed Photoshop CS4 extended, and I'm having some problems with Preferences in the edit menu.
When I attempt to go to either "performance" or "general" under preferences, it freezes, then I get an error report and it shuts down.
Everything else has been working fine so far, though, and it's a wonderful program.
My computer is a little older, and is on xp.

Reinstalling should not reset your prefs; you'll need to do it manually as described in the link about, and in post 1.

In my case, updating the video card driver solved the problem (or at least part of my problem, although the other part of my problem is related to a second video card that does not support OpenGL).
So... try updating your video card driver and see it that helps. In my case, deleting and resetting the Preferences file did not solve the problem.
