A short while back I downloaded a trial of CS4 Extended, and it worked like magic on Vista 32 bit, dual screen monitors, Nvidia 8800GTS graphics card with drivers not updated. CS4 was a fast as CS3, if not faster.

I did a format this weekend, and put in my OS, updated Nvidia driver, updated all drivers etc, etc. Put in MS Office 2007 as this was in there before. I then installed CS4 and opened it, set my preferences up, closed it down, opened it again, opened a new doc, tried the brush tool and serious, serious lag.

I am talking about this is the same system in every respect pre Format.

What could make a Format cause lag? Nothing.

The problem is either Nvidia's new drivers, or an Adobe Problem. Either way, I am not keeping this product as before it is resolved, my 30 days will be up.

I wanted to share this information because this was like a test where CS4 "should" have performed like a charm. Instead it's like a dead horse, or a half finished product.

On an added side note. I run Maxon 4D, and Vue XStream on openGL, and guess what? NO issues with those programs rendering. No lag.....just superb performance.

CS4 is now deactivated. :| CS3 is now back. :)

Another mystery trial user!

Partly incorrect. The edition I put on the OS in question was an upgrade from CS3 to CS4, so what's the mystery?

Your reply is senseless for the information I thought to share with others!

Your sharing is appreciated Ana.

The comment was because some people seem to have got hold of unofficial trial versions of CS4, although Adobe say the trial download will not be available until mid-November.

An Adobe engineer has said that these unofficial trial versions may be from an earlier build than the retail version which you have.

What exactly does the Photoshop Elements 7 trial download aborted before
completion have to do with possible lag in Photoshop CS4 Extended?

It's ok John, I am always cautious with new products I buy, and frequently install them as 'trials' only. Once I know they work well, then I fire up my reg and activate.

Ana,

May I suggest you roll back a display driver and report back?

Well, *exactly* that Mr. Joslin was commenting in an earlier post (#3) in this thread about people obtaining unofficial versions of the trial. I quote:-

"...The comment was because some people seem to have got hold of unofficial trial versions of CS4, although Adobe say the trial download will not be available until mid-November..."

And this seems to be how it might be done.

Anthony.

Mathias, I did all that, and it made no difference, so I deactivated and installed. I'm back to CS3, but have the Master Collection on it's way which I am now slightly regretting, but praying it is better than the PS CS4 alone. I doubt it, but hope the other components are.

Thank you for the suggestion....but I covered all bases.

I wonder how many of us would have purchased this edition if we HAD been permitted a trial download? Not me!

Did you install your motherboards chipset drivers? I have experienced lag in PS CS3 and CS4 and it has almost always been down to scratch drive performance / cache level and ram. If your hard drives ( asuming you have more than one for photoshop ) are not running at optimum then you will experience a performance hit.

Installing the chipsets drivers first thing after the reformat is a really good idea....

Hope this helps.

BTW...I don't have any lag any more after making sure the above is in place.

Did you revert to the same drivers you had before?

You are permitted to a trial prior to purchasing. No one is obligated to purchase it now.
