Was searching around for my solution but I was unable to find it actually. So I went ahead and made a topic in hopes of getting the answer perhaps. I had just installed PShop CS3 Extended and Alienskin Bundle on Windows Vista Ultimate.

Everything starts up fine, however when I start a new document it does a program Error and can't complete. I try again, and I get this info below when it asks to check solution and close which only occurs when the second time I try and access anything in File or so. Also occurs when I try and open a file instead of new document start up.

I am using a HP Pavilion Laptop dv5220us.

Basically, I can't start a new document or open one or really do anything without that error popping up.

Tried that, and it appears there is no prompt to clear preferences as stated. Just gives me properties, which I searched there and there was nothing of the sort.

I'd also uninstall Alienskin Bundle, and try again.

I've had Alienskin, since before they had that name (cannot recall what they were before, been too many decades), and even the earliest versions have worked well with PS, in its various iterations. Do not know their bundle, but first, see if PS-Extended will open without it. Test it out completely, and then do a System Restore Point. Only after all is working well (hopefully), install the Alienskin bundle.

I've found that various plug-ins, especially if written for an earlier version of a program will often crap-out, with a newer one. Still, I have plug-ins that I bought for PS vers. 3, working well with CS3. One took a bit of modification, and one does some funky GUI things, but they still work.

Good luck,

Hunt

Hmmm still nothing.

I uninstalled, tried the syst' restore, even the repair option. I still get the Program Error. The thing is, I'll get it, then I click OK, and when I go to try and open or start new doc, it gives me the Check Solution and Close prompt.

Will try that Alien Skin Bundle Unistall, and even unintall PShop.

Odd, for I never had this problem with XP until I placed in Vista Ultimate.

You are not resetting your preferences properly!

<http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.ef4a07f/1>

You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.

This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.

A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.

this hasn't worked for me. is there a way to just get rid of all the preferences? i think what the issue is, is that i have some plugins from alienskin, and some others and i'm pretty sure the error is attributed to PS looking for those plugins and not finding them.

Use the methods described. You cannot "just get rid of all the preferences". In fact, even physically deleting the Photoshop prefs *.psp file has been known to render all of PS defunct. Resetting is an inconvenience, but the only way to breathe new life into PS without a full reinstall.

i've never heard of that, and i've been here quite a while.

Nor me. I could only imagine it happening if something else was broken. A virgin install of PS only creates the pref files once you open the program.

That's why a re-install doesn't help if the preferences have become corrupted. It just uses the old ones.

I agree with dave and JJ. In fact, the best thing to do is to save the Pref file somewhere convenient (desktop works) and when it seems advisable to reset, you merely need to reinstall your prefs.

did you see post 6 about resetting your preferences? delete them manually...

did you try to REinstall the alien skin plugins to see if that helped?

Disconnect your computer from the internet and turn off all AV, fire walls Windows Defender etc. Be sure to disable all options. Then check it out.

My Adobe Master Suite CS3 has stopped working. Not only PS but all the programs in the bundle. I;ve tried reinstalling it twice and I'm not getting anything. I tried the Ctrl+Alt+Shift but it doesn't do anything. I can't do anything on any of the programs now. The error occurs every time I open. The options I get are
Close the program (Done that)
CHeck online for a solution..(Done that)

I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit,on a HP Pavillion dv6000.

The C runtime is failing? That sounds like you have some corrupt files on disk or some malware on your system.

Try to uninstall some printers of your system (I had the problem with the Ricoh MPC 2500 driver ...)
