I currently have CS2 (do not have the disks for it though) and am thinking of upgrading to CS4. Will all of my actions and scripts be usable in CS4? If I dislike CS4, can I "downgrade" back to CS2 without having the disks?
Thanks much!

both applications will co-exist very nicely. If you were to remove CS2 you would need the disks to reinstall. Also you need to enter the CS2 serial number when you install CS4 if you remove CS2.

CS2 includes Imageready. there is no Imageready in CS4 if you use IR you definately want to keep CS2 around.

I was going to purchase just the upgrade to CS4. Is that okay? Is there somewhere in CS2 that I can see my serial number?
Thanks again!

The SN is on the case of your original CS2 CD but is not shown in full on your computer.

If you registered your serial Adobe will have that information.

What Ann said. Not on the computer. The number on the splash screen ("About Photoshop") is deliberately truncated to discourage software piracy.

No. You must have proof of ownership, end of story. If your ownership is not bombproof...

tiffany,

I'm just going to assume that "the dog ate the discs" and you properly registered the CS2 software with Adobe.

You can simply contact Adobe and get the serial number from them, and (I believe) you can also get a replacement set of discs. Otherwise, you're looking at purchasing full versions of CS4 software.

Thanks. I don't think I registered the software, but will double check. I hope I still have the discs in boxes somewhere. Will have to go look.

I just don't understand paying hundreds of dollars for software and then not registering it.

Buko,

It's a funny thing. And I don't want to single out Tiffany as a surprising number of folks have purchased hundreds or thousands of dollars in software, yet treat it as casually as so many pairs of socks. A few years ago, I recall a good friend having Microsoft Office, Photoshop, and QuarkXPress discs scattered casually in a kitchen drawer, without even the benefit of jewel cases or sleeves. If the software were of an equal value in jewelry, most likely far more care would be taken in storing it, keeping track of it and insuring it.

I agree neil we hear far too often in these forums. after paying full price for a few versions maybe these careless people will catch on.

I am not sure why I would not have registered it as I "always" have registered my software before. I suppose now I know why I always did before. Hopefully I can find the disks with the serial number and will register as soon as I do!
Thanks for everyones help!!!

Tiffany,

If you have Photoshop 9.0.2 ("CS2") installed and running, you should be able to register it online through its Help menu,
