I have run into a scanning glitch. I scan from Photoshop CS3 in Leopard 10.5.6, using Lasersoft Silverfast IT8 Studio version 6.6.0r2. My scanner is an Epson 1640XL connected via Firewire. This usually works fine. Today, however, the scanner driver seems to be having a problem with Photoshop. Some scans have hung & been unable to complete, and I had to force quit Photoshop & Silverfast a couple of times. The same scanner works fine with Image Capture, though.

Here is a screen capture of the error message:

I would appreciate any leads in troubleshooting this issue, thanks.

The plugin returned an error when it shouldn't have, or used really bad parameters.

Contact Silverfast.

But why are you scanning from inside Photoshop anyway?

Just launch SilverFast 6.6.0r2 as a stand-alone application and you should be fine.

Chris,

Thank you, I will notify the Silverfast people.

Ann,

No particular reason other than I've always done it this way. I will try your suggestion.

The advantage of using the scanner software as a stand-alone application is that you can continue to work in Photoshop while scanning continues in the background.

Ann,

Agreed, that sounds like a better use of my time. Watching a big scan come in is kind of like watching the dryer go 'round.

In case anyone else is using Silverfast and runs into this trouble, the problem was resolved by deleting Silverfast's preferences, which can be done from the launcher itself, by clicking the little Tools icon to the right of your Silverfast version:
