I've been winging it with absolutely no prior photoshop knowlege plus being only 4 months into using a Mac. (iMac 24, 3.06 processor, 1TB HD, 4 GB RAM, 512 vid card). I'm interested in doing about 80 percent "from scratch" artwork with PS and the other 20 photo editing. Would either or both of these books suit my needs for learning PS CS4 and can you recommend any others for someone on a relatively "starving artist" budget?

- "Photoshop CS4 For Dummies" by Peter Bauer

- "Adobe Photoshop CS4 Classroom in a Book" by Adobe Creative Team

Thanks...

I'd skip that one.

Anything by Ben Willmore is a good choice in my opinion.

My advice would be to start with just a single book at this time - and yes, I also agree that book should Adobe's classroom in a book. Read through it, following along and doing the exercises from start to finish. Once done, go through it one more time.

This will give you a solid foundation and then you can look to more advanced books.

This is exactly the way I began my Photoshop "career" 14 years ago and it has served me well.
