Anyone have any experience to share with printing on fine-art paper? I have a project in progress - a faux watercolor - that would look better on that sort of background.

Barb, thanks very much - will pick through the nuggets you provided. I'm on a short time fuse, so I'll probably wander up to the local art supply house (not one of my regular haunts...) to see what they have in stock.

p.s. I've scaled down my printer 'needs" - Epson 960 is looking like the way to go.

Good Morning Chuck,

Sounds like an interesting project. I used your method and looked it up on Google. They may have something here <http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&q=%22printing+on+watercolor+paper%22&spell=1> you could use.

Chuck,
Over on the Photoshop forum, Daryl Pritchard apparently does, and he has email. You might contact him on his experiences.

With regards to paper, I've tried Concorde Rag and Somerset Photo Enhanced which look great for B&W prints. Tried a couple of color images and didn't like the results.

Chuck, I think you'll be VERY happy with the 960. Really don't have any negative to report, except for the occassional 11x14 or larger print that I cannot print. I'll find a good lab and send them the file - no biggie. Let me know if you have any questions.

Chuck, I've never done this myself, but one of the wedding photographers I work with a lot offers this as an alternative to a boring album of photos, and it's very effective. They use an hp 1220.

Chuck, in case you need more info I came across this Printing on Fine Art Papers <http://www.shortcourses.com/how/fineart/fineartpapers.htm> . Hope you have success! :-) The Epson 960 printer sounds like an excellent choice.

Barb, thanks for the link - it'll be put to good use. The 960 is still on the wish list; not stocked at CompUSA and my online store is out too. Maybe next year...

For what it is worth I have printed on a number of fine art paper using both a colour
inkjet and a black and white laser . Although they are all softer than printing in a more
traditional way I was very pleased with the results. I have had no problems with the
printers as long as I didn't get a too textured or a too thick of a paper. Good luck and
keep me informed

Grant, thanks very much. The paper I found today was a "watercolor paper for inkjet printers" by Burlington. It has quite a bit of texture and is coated in some way to be receptive to inkjet ink. Looks like it'll meet my short-term needs, although it's a little expensive - running my test prints on ordinary paper!

Chuck, sounds like you're set for this run, but for future reference you (and others) may want to check out redriverpapers sample kits <http://www.redrivercatalog.com/Pages/splashpages/samplekitgroup.html>. They used to have an 'Artistic Papers' kit, which is no longer listed, but the Combo kit is a good deal and gives samples of all their papers. I've made a few prints on the art papers with beautiful results, but have not ordered those in quantity. I have ordered other papers from them with good results with my Epson 870 printer. The service was quick and efficient. Or request the catalog and have fun browsing - there's lots of information there.

Margaret, that looks like a great source - will order the catalog. Thanks very much!
