Well, we upgraded to PE 7 from PE 4 last week and am pleased with a lot of the new features from PE 4. However, there are 2 things that were in PE 4 but not in PE 7 that cause the workflow to be slower.

First, when editing a picture in Quick Edit, there's no shortcut in the upper right-hand corner of the picture to close it when done (can't minimize or maximize either). The only option to close a picture is to go through the main menu (File, Close)! When did this disappear? Why provide it when you're on Full Edit but not provide it on Quick Edit (if anything, it should be the other way around)

Second, why aren't the main menu shortcuts listed in a toolbar anymore? We can't just open or print a file without going through the main menu (File, Open or File, Print)?

I've searched all over and can't find a way to change these settings.

Jim, I totally agree with your complain/request about the missing shortcuts in the right-hand corners of the Quick Edit Window. Among other, I agree with the following:
"Why provide it when you're on Full Edit but not provide it on Quick Edit".

Fortunately for me, I dont use much Quick Fix anymore (instead, I use Full Edit and I am very glad, that Full Edit continues to provide these shortcuts that I am using extensively). Therefore, personally I am not strongly affected by this unfortunate Quick Fix change. But if using often Quick Fix, this change would make me mad.

I believe that this unfortunate change happened in PSE V6.

This also affects my workflow and will slow it down a lot. I often just do a quick touch up to several dozen pictures in quick fix, only going to full edit whne I need to.

I'm on Elements 5 now and considering upgrading, but this will keep me considering for a longer time.

I Upgraded from Album 2 to Elements 3, 4 and 5 on the day they became available. The later version have had fewer and fewer improvements so my pace of upgrades has slowed drastically.

I just made the same upgrade (4.0 to 7.0 when I was forced into Vista because my laptop dies) and I can't see a way to make 4 fold greeting cards anymore! That's the MAIN thing I used this for!

I'm still on PE4 because when looking at all subsequent releases I haven't relly seen too much of a reason to upgrade. Interesting to read the points about slowing down of the workflow in PE7 though - doesn't sound like a reason to upgrade.

However I use PE4 in support of a small event photography business and I have one particular issue in the 'Creations / Album pages' aspect of PE4, in that whilst I can repeat a header and footer on all pages I can not repeat a text caption (event title and location) on all pages. This means that I do a great deal of copy / paste / align activity at an event when often the schedule is really tight.

Hoping that PE7 may have fixed this problem for me I downloaded the trial version today and found that 'Album pages' was not shown as an option in the Create part of the product. I'm not sure if the trial version is not fully featured or whether, like the 4 fold greetings card point already made, this feature has been lost.

Can anyone with PE7 installed tell me whether my particular issue has been fixed? If it hasn't I guess I'll be staying on PE4.

With the free trial, you have everything it comes with except you only have it for 30 days. So if it's not in your trial version, it's not in the licensed version either.

Thanks Jim - that's what I thought might be the case.

Won't be upgrading - may even look elsewhere.

The biggest loss, which occurred between v4 and v5 is the disappearance of the Undo and Redo buttons in the tool bar. There is almost nothing in the tool bar now, and no way to add to or customized it. I contacted Adobe about this back when I bought v5 and got the impression that they were not interested in my opinion.

It certainly slows me down since I often try a filter or adjustment and then want to undo to try another or switch between the change and the original a few times to get a visual comparison. These are the two most used buttons for me. Fortunately I do most of my work on a Mac. Up to v6 the Mac program still has the Undo and Redo tools.

There is a good news for you: PSE re-introduced the Undo and Redo buttons.

I do not remember anymore, if the re-introduction happened in V6 or in V7.
