Severing connected text blocks?

Hello,

If I have a huge long string of text blocks, with text running continuously
through them, is there any way to just cut that string somewhere, leaving
all the text as-is?

Currently, if you sever the connection in the middle, all the text from that
point forward is gone. It's all kept in the first block, where you can't
see it.

I want to chop the connection and leave the text before the chop in the text
blocks before the chop, and the text that is after it needs to move to those
remaining blocks I guess.

Does that make sense? It seems like a common thing to want to do, I hope
there is a way! This is in CS5 Mac version.
