Using Audio Properties for Expressions

I want to use the audio layer's waveform properties to control Expressions. For example, I want the size of the waveform to change the size property of another layer (or rotate etc.). I can't get the pickwick to attach to the wavefrom, so I put the Waveform Spectrum Effect on the layer to see if I can link to the changes inside the effect. But, when I pickwick to height for example, it changes to a new size but doesn't change as the waveform height changes the way I want. Any help would be appreciated. TY

Use the Convert Audio to Keyframes keyframe assistant to create a new layer with sliders representing the audio level. Then pickwhip to that.

Thanks. I got that far by researching. I am controlling the amplitude of a voice track to change the shape of a mask and it works pretty good. Do you know any way that I can refine an expression so that it just responds to certain sounds (o,a,i etc) or words (the,a, go etc)? TY

You could use Premiere or Soundbooth (CS4) to transcribe the audio, then when you import the file into After Effects, the individual words will show up as layer markers. You could modify your expression to only be active during the duration of appropriate markers.

Thanks but I only have Premiere 1.5.
