Portfolio Edit--Initial Sort not working

Hi all,
Pulling my hair out over this one, wondering if anyone else has encountered/resolved.
Scenario:
Create a portfolio by selecting files (PDFs) in Windows Explorer, right-click combine in Acrobat, set the order and create portfolio.
All is fine until I eventual replace a file then the initial sort opening view becomes the first page alphabetically by name NOT the document ordered as 1. Initial order in File Details is set as Order.
I've created several from scratch and inevitably this happens.
Any help suggestions much appreciated - can provide example of bad file.
