How to create a pdf of recipe index cards?

I have about 150 recipes on 4x6 index cards. I have scanned them into
150 separate pdf's, and have named the files based upon their contents
(e.g., "Onion and Cheese Omelette.pdf", "Ratatouille.pdf", "Chicken
Soup.pdf", etc.).

I know how to combine them into a single recipe book (each recipe is
one page) using Adobe Acrobat Pro. But can I create a table of
contents at the beginning of the pdf that will allow me to point and
click at the item I want and get to the right recipe?

You can create a table of bookmarks in the left panel by selecting the
text you
want to bookmark in the document and pressing Ctrl-B. I assume you've
OCR'd the recipes!
Once you've dreated the bookmarks you can drag & drop them in any order
you want in the left navigator

You assume I know what I'm doing. No I have not OCR'd them. Some of
the recipes are handwritten, others are printed. I do have a program
that OCR's files. Could you point me at something that will tell me,
step-by-step, how to proceed, in what format do I work, etc.?

Thanks in advance for giving me hope that some day, when I know what
I'm doing, I can get this job done properly.

What version of Acrobat Pro do you have? I have version X and the menus
are quite different to earlier versions so it'd difficult for me to give
you a walkthrough.

You can OCR within Acrobat Pro. Look for a "recognise Text" menu item
somewhere. Should work on printed images anyhow. Not so good for
handwritten stuff.

You can also add text boxes within Acrobat Pro to each page of the
document. Then you can do the Ctrl-B bookmarking to that text.
