Hi,

I am using freeswitch and I want to use the TTS.

All spoken text should be in dutch (nl), so I want to specify the language of the speaker.

Is this possible? If so how (say has an options hash, but no documentation exists what options can be given,
this might on both the AHN backend (Freeswitch, Asterisk) as the TTS Backend, but then please give a link where we can find special documentation for these cases.

I am currently using flite, but I am open for other (free) TTS solutions.

Regards,
Nathan

Flite does not allow specification of language in its API, only the voice. The available voices are
  • awb
  • kal
  • rms
  • slt

All of these are English, and flite does not support Dutch TTS. Additionally, you'll notice that flite's output barely sounds human. High-quality TTS is not something you can get free - I'm afraid you're going to have to look at commercial solutions.

Regards,
Ben Langfeld

Cepstral/ Swift is not great in quality either, but it does support many languages and is not expensive.
Have a go at the free downloads and have a look!
