Ultan O'Broin's "I am" post stream over the last few weeks was an
experiment for the ADF EMG. Before inviting other experts to talk to
the group, I'd like feedback from you please - was it a success, was
it worth it?

Please tell us what worked, what didn't, what you'd like to see done
differently. Constructive criticism (and praise) appreciated. Maybe
there's other people you'd like to see us invite?

Thanks for your input.

CM.

… IMO (and as one who has quite a bit of the thread still in an 'instapaper' queue) - the discussion was very fascinating.  It was also interesting to see how others have approached design and usability in the software we create; something I think bears further discussion.

Thanks for setting this up!

Thanks for the positive reply Chad.

Hmmm, not many people replying though. So let's change the question to see if we can get more participation.

Who would you like me to invite in the next "I am" thread?

I found it quite useful and a success.
As a result I've reached out to Ultan, am on the internal UI list and have participated in a Usability study for new Jdev UI features…and more to come I hope.

I'd be interested to get a Sr. Oracle ADF BC or Faces designer to discuss internal architecture, plans for future, etc.
Thanks
Joe

I found it very informative and constructive discussion, it's really amazing to see how the product was design with UX in mind

For the next candidate I'd like to see a product manager of either: WebCenter, Fusion Applications or Public Cloud!

Looking just at the number of messages in the corresponding thread, it
was a success ;-) Well done!

To get even more from the experiment (and move ADF forward) we could
follow on and start a thread about: "Request for new/improved ADF
Faces RC components" (this time not from technical perspective but UX
Driven)

Because I think even if you have the best UX Designer on your team the
main challenge will be how to achiev the desired UX in ADF. At some
point you will get stucked because you are limited by the given ADF
Component set. The integration of 3rd party JSF component libs or pure
JS/HTML/CSS solutions is not always easy and in terms of support and
future migration pathes not a good design decision.

A good point. I am OK with that. For example, take flexibility of
navigation required by UX and the ADF validation that might prevent
users from navigating from one tab to another before completing
fields, decisions about the usage of implicit save versus explicit
save, restoration UIs after timeout, and so on. I see a need for some
guidance on UX for developers who do no have access to designers, and
of course, internationalization and localization guidance needs to be
included...:)

hi Chris

- about 'Who would you like me to invite in the next "I am" thread?'

Last week I was able to attend a talk by Jeff Davies [1] at Oracle
Belgium, titled "Oracle's Approach to SOA - Guiding and Accelerating
SOA Success.", where the focus was not on the Oracle products but more
on SOA in general.

From Jeff Davies' website : "I am a Sr. Principal Product Manager at
Oracle Corporation in Redwood Shores, CA. I specialize in software
architecture, especially Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)."
It was an interesting talk that often made you think again about some
of the software architecture aspects discussed.

Because it seemed somewhat off topic I did not ask any ADF related
questions during the talk.
But, altought seemingly less related to ADF as a framework, the SOA
topic also has many aspects related to "Enterprise Methodology" (as in
ADF Enterprise Methodology Group).

Also, if one (Jeff Davies) claims stuff like "the enterprise is the
application", some questions could be:
- What role do you see for ADF applications in a Service Oriented
Architecture?
- How well do ADF applications using ADF Business Components play
along in a Service Oriented Architecture?

Sure, there will be others that can answer questions like these, but
Jeff Davies might have an interesting perspective.
Note that Jeff Davies also blogged a book review on "Oracle ADF
Enterpprise Application Development - Made Simple" [2].

It is just a suggestion.

Kudos Chris for the "I am". I guess some one in the BC domain has to be next to explain the hidden truths or the false lies :)
