"The Year of the ADF Developer" was a bold marketing statement I
coined before this year's 2011 Oracle Open World to hopefully get
people to attend the OOW User Group Super Sunday ADF EMG sessions.
The risk, nobody would turn up, proving my marketing skills a fraud.

But luckily you proved me right (or at least not a fraud this
year ;-). The sessions were awesome, with 7 great speakers (6
sessions) and a room that was packed all day long with 160+ delegates
all day.

If you don't understand how good this year was let me put it in
perspective. 3 years ago we had an Unconference session with say 20
people attending, 2 years ago around the same at another Unconference
session. Last year we had ~150 people at an "on-schedule"
presentation and just 2 attendees at our Unconference (hmmm, 2010 was
a mixed bag). This year, 6 sessions, over 160 people each session.
Officially a success (and "phew" on my part).

So I must signal my great appreciation to the speakers for kindly
giving their time to present and organise their presentations before
the event. The fact that you're willing to support a community effort
is simply awesome (or "okay" as the Dutch would say ;-).

Jean-Marc, thanks for the cover slide, it turned up in all sorts of
presentations during the week. Thanks to other speakers including
Aino for advertising the EMG during your own session. Your support
for the group and it's members is appreciated.

To all the delegates that attended, thanks very much for your
support. If we had had low numbers I'd have little ammunition to ask
for another room at OOW12. But now we've got real momentum to take us
onwards for next year.

To the Asia-Pacific Oracle User Council (APOUC) and Bambi Price for
giving us the room, Bambi your support of my passion is greatly
appreciated.

And finally thanks to my team of volunteers, John Flack, Simon Haslam
and Sten Vesterli who help out with the "running" side of our little
user group. Your help and effort out of hours in your own personal
time is appreciated.

If you're interested in downloading the presentations, I've uploaded
them to our Google Groups web site under the "Oracle Open World 2011"
folder: https://sites.google.com/site/oracleemg/adf/files

As a final message please remember groups such as the ADF EMG only
exist through your participation, so I look forward to seeing where
"we" can take the ADF EMG in 2012.

Thanks again,

Chris Muir.

My thanks to Chris, John, Sten, Simon and all the presenters. It was
really quite a sight to see all those ADF developers in one room. I,
too, remember the presentations from the "Unconference" a couple of
years ago. What a difference! Great job guys!

Chris, I attended your presentation "Angels in the Architecture: An Oracle Application Development Framework Architectural Blueprint", and was deeply moved by your message. I have been trying to locate your presentation slides in OOW Content Catalog and in ADF EMG google folder but can't seem to find it. Can you provide a link to your presentation?
Thanks.

Thanks for the compliment Charlie, I too had a tear in my eye ;-)

Not sure why my presentation isn't up on the OOW Content Catalogue as
I did give it to them. However an easy alternative is that served by
my company's website:

http://www.sagecomputing.com.au/papers_presentations/ADF%20Architectural%20Patterns%20-%20LongBeach%20ODTUG%20minus%20pics.pptx

Please remember (and this is really just a hint for others who didn't
attend and missed the message around the patterns) the goal isn't to
achieve pattern 6 or 7 or whatever highest numbered pattern, but
simply to understand what pattern of application you're building with
the pros or cons. I'd hate to have people start saying "we reached
pattern 7 on the Chris Muir architectural score board". I'd rather
have people say "we chose pattern 3 because it suited our needs" or
"we found a new pattern and let me share it with everyone".

Good luck, and I'd love people to further comment on the presentations
to keep the architectural questions and debate moving forward.

CM.
