This seedling flowered for the first time this
morning - here is a photo by natural light in shade:
and in shade with flash:
and in brilliant sunshine:
and now the seedling:
This is the pod parent; Dr. Dimmitt tells us that
'Incandescent' is 'Black Ruby' x 'Crown':
and now the pollen parent. This is the same
parentage as Dr. Dimmitt's 'Black Raspberry', possibly out of the same
pod:
This was the first good seedling of the cross to
flower:
And now to amuse the retired Prof. here are the
estimated percentage of the species in the background of this
hybrid
'Amiability', 'Black Ruby' and 'Crown' are all
cultivars of Adenium obesum.
Therefore we have 75% A. obesum of
which a half (37.5% is the cultivar 'Black Ruby')
and we have 25% of A. crispum 'MAD 106'
which you can clearly see in the prominent nectar guides.
The flowers are relatively small but of a most
interesting colour.
