I couldn't make it to the April ruby meetup last night but it sounded
like a good intro to testing.

Apparently there were various offers for next months talks including an
advanced Rspec talk, capybara.

Next month we'll be having a continuation of testing talks, starting
with my talk on Jasmine.
If anyone is willing to present their testing related talk please do so
by the end of Friday where I'll announce the meetup.

Also by Friday I need presentation offers for June, which will be
non-testing (we can always come back to testing in later months if
people want it)

I will then announce the two meetups Friday/Saturday.

Hi Guys,

We made a list of presentations last night:

Sebastian: Test Driven Development
Dan: Capybara
Chris: Timecop and VCR (these each could be the Gem of the month)
Adam: Objects on rails
???: Factory Girl + Machinist (also gem of the month candidates?)
Robert: Ruby Symbols
Yuji: REE vs JRuby vs Rubinius vs MRI
Adam: Torque Box (JRuby thingy?)

I propose the following:

May - Test Fest part 2

Sebastian: TDD
Dan: Capybara
Gem of the Month (GoM): Timecop by Chris

June

Adam: Objects on Rails
Robert: Symbols
GoM: VCR

July

Yuji: REE etc
Adam: Torque Box
GoM: Factory Girl

Hows that for planning!?

Dan

Also, Codefire can offer our new space on Rundle st for the next meetup if that is convenient for everyone!

That's what I'm talking about :) Awesome planning

Can the presentors of those 9 presentions confirm their availabilities then we can hopefully announce all 3 by the weekend.

I think it's nice to have a change of venue (plus that way one organises the venue, the other the food) so how about May @ CodeFire, June @ SeaLink, July@CodeFire

A few things:

1) April: Slides? Could the April presenters email a link to their presentations to the mailing list (e.g. google docs link or some other hosted link or email daniel directly and he'll put it on the adelaiderb website).

2) May: Announced! Thanks for the presenters who confirmed for May's talks so I have announced that on meetup.

3) June/July/Beyond: Confirmed Offers? Could anyone who is offering a talk for June or beyond please email the list to confirm they can talk so I can finish the June and July meetups and announce them.

In the interest of beginners One of the June talks could instead be about bundler as people seemed to be interested in such a talk back in February where I tried to explain a few things but was focused on the Intro to Rails talk so couldn't dig deep.

I think everything from Gemfile and bundle install (simple stuff) to advanced topics (stuff like Gemfile.lock, using git for sources, vendor/cache, --deploy, bundle update, --binstubs)

4) August: Gem Making Month? I think a gem making month is so important (so we can share all the great code we've done for others to benefit). I have learned a lot about this in the last few months and also Fred has been offering to do a talk on this for a few months.

5) Beginners
We're trying to do beginner talks frequently, such as:
December: Code School
January: N/A
February: Intro to Rails
March: Intro to Rails (Part 2)
April: Intro to RSpec & Cucumber

And one of the best ways to get help is to just ask questions as you've done at the meetups or feel free to suggest what kind of beginner talks you want, e.g. Rails Routing. Ruby boolean logic, or perhaps just let us know what problem you're having and we can suggest a solution or do a talk on that particular problem.

e there any specific topics you'lld like us to cover. We've now had 2 ruby/rails beginners talks in
