Builder -An Article from Progster-http://codefortraders.com/

Adaptrade Builder
For the past several months I (Progster) have been working with a fantastic new-to-me software tool, Adaptrade Builder, written by Mike Bryant of Adaptrade Software. For many years Mike published an excellent educational newsletter called Breakout Futures, and offered a great product called Market System Analyzer. I'd been a reader of BF and a user of MSA since way back, but have been so busy with my own work in recent times that I missed noticing the original release of Builder in March of 2010.

I suppose everything happens for a reason, and this past January I became aware of Builder, then at release 1.5.0.

Wow! What builder does is amazing.

Refined and enhanced over time, now super-slick and powerful (Mike's second version digits are equivalent to some people's first), Builder is like a personal software Genie who stands ready to create your fantasy trading systems for you at your wish and command. Yes, really.

But for those of you who would prefer a more technical explanation ...
Builder constructs trading strategies using a genetic programming algorithm to select different combinations of technical indicators, operators, and entry and exit orders. Builder includes technical indicators for trend, trend strength, oscillators, volatility, volume, time of day, day of week, and price patterns. The indicators are combined using logical and inequality operators. In addition, there are three different types of entry orders and six different types of exit orders. With all the possible combinations of rules and orders, Builder is capable of generating literally trillions of different possible trading strategies.

To build a strategy, all you need to do is select a file of price data, which you can save from a price chart, make a few settings to guide the build process, and press the Build button. The program does the rest.

But what about your wish and command?

That's the whole point - YOU tell builder what you want it to find, and you tell it in terms of the performance you want and expect in any system deemed worthy for you to spend your time to review and decide about.

Example: I want a system with Profit Factor > 2, Avg Trade > $150, In-Sample DrawDown < $2k over the test period, with at least 50 trades per year, winning at least 50% of the time, and with an Out-Of-Sample equity curve that keeps climbing similarly to the In-Sample equity curve.

Would that work for you? If so, and if such a system exists for your market and timeframe of choice, Builder is very likely to find it. In fact, Builder is very likely to find many such systems for you to choose between. You'll get to see comprehensive tabular and graphical performance output to help you in your final decision to trade, and Builder will help you be confident in that decision by allowing you to perform multiple types of Monte Carlo stress testing on any or all of the generated systems.

When you reach the point of "Oh yeah, I would trade that!" (and you will), Builder will write you ready-to-operate platform code for any (or all) of TradeStation, MultiCharts, or MT4.

Can you say "Yes, Master!"? (I knew you could)

Builder conceives, codes, tests, presents, and finally translates an unlimited number of trading strategies all via a clear, well-organized interface that takes remarkably little of your time to learn and use. It's like having 5 people on the payroll, all tirelessly intent on the mission you set for them.

The leverage in relation to your investment of time and money that Adaptrade Builder offers is truly extraordinary. My coder's hat is off to Mike Bryant, and I seriously recommend buying this product before he decides to raise the price by a factor of 5x or 10x ! (The program is easily worth that to those with larger capital to trade, and retail traders are very lucky IMO that Mike is offering them an "in" to this kind of capability.)

CFT, of course, has always been about "great tools", and we are very happy to be able to bring you news of this one!
