Greetings:
I would like to invite you to attend our Tuesday, May 8, 2012 session of the West End Business Corridor Visioning Series at West Hunter Street Baptist Church, 1040 Ralph David Abernathy Blvd., beginning at 7:30 a.m. This session will focus on identifying funding sources for businesses and looking at tourism as an industry that could boost development.
One funding source that will be discussed is Opportunity Zones (OZ), a Georgia incentives program administered through the Department of Community Affairs. OZ increases the amount of and access to state incentives for job creation in approved areas. If West End applies for OZ through the City of Atlanta and is approved by the State of Georgia, the program would allow a business person who hires two or more persons, to get a tax credit of $3,500 per person per year for five years.
We will also discuss New Market Tax Credits, a program that can be used to purchase property, build new construction or rehabilitate existing facilities. The types of projects that can be funded by this program include offices, retail locations, manufacturing sites, community facilities and mixed-use development with at least 20%-30% commercial outlets.
Tourism professionals will share insights regarding how formalizing a tourism industry linking West End, the Atlanta University and other nearby historic neighborhoods can help spur the development of new businesses and increase the revenues generated by existing commercial sites.
After our session on May 8th, there will be one final panel discussion session on May 22, 2010, so please come and encourage other West End businesses to join you in this visioning process. There will be information available in the resource area on the topics for discussion on Tuesday, May 8th as well as West End’s Community Improvement District, which affects the entire West End Business Corridor. If you need further information regarding the visioning process, please call Barbara Washington in my office at (404) 330-6047.
See you on Tuesday, May 8, 2012!
Sincerely,
