The challenge with that is properly anticipating the subset of link
relations that will be useful in the long term. The risk is that
splitting it the way you describe, implementors would then have to
check for links in two separate places (either top level "blessed"
links or within an arbitrary collection of extension links). Such a
distinction seems unnecessary.
