Sure! I have a "profile" class that is my ActiveRecord object to hold
either a credit card or echeck. I override the "valid?" method as

What's the best way to go about skipping some ActiveMerchant
validations on an update?

For example, I have a table to store credit card payment information
(other than the "secure" stuff). I want to allow the user to update
some of the information, like their expiration date or billing address

Martin,

I was able to make it work by walking through the AM errors hash and
adding them to the AR errors hash using the add() method. It's not the
prettiest code, but it is working very well. I wanted to do it this
way because then I get a nice, single error display via the
ActiveRecord::Error class and I get the highlighted fields.

I produced a quick crude hack i'd say (I didn't know any better, so if
there's something elegant, i'd want to know).
in controller that handles the .purchase (or .authorize & .capture) i have
this code:
if @credit_card.valid?
if @options.valid?
# do the .purchase; associate the purchase w/ the customer; redirect_to

I'm sure someone's encountered this before:

How would one combine the errors from validating a CC or check via AM
with an ActiveRecord object's errors? In particular, I've got some
custom CSS to highlight fields that have errors. But when I have
Active Merchant errors in validation, I can't see how to group that or

You want to run the authorization so that you know the credit card is valid
when you are storing into into the vault. I would imagine that you may want
to authorize for more than $1, but I don't see a case where you wouldn't
want to authorize the card at all.

If you want to make a change, I would recommend you add an option like the
TrustCommerce gateway to allow a person to not run an authorize to store the
card. This option should default to running the authorization, to make it
match the behavior of TrustCommerce and Payment Express.

Yes. Either scheduled recurring billing or just letting the customer
make future purchases without having to re-enter their CC info.

It's just good to know all three of these dataset requirements:

1. what the CC companies require
2. what the gateway requires or recommends
3. what my application needs require
