Dimensional Weight And Volume Calculation

Hi All,

I did a little searching around the group and didn't quite find a
discussion on this topic regarding ActiveShipping. I'm curious to
understand the packages more in ActiveShipping. When you create your
packages array, are those packages modeling multiple boxes? One for
each package within the array. Or are they modeling items that would
be included in a single box? The reason I'm asking is that I'm trying
to get a better understanding of how the dimensions of the actual
shipping box are calculated to end up figuring out the dimensional
weight of the box being shipped. So is the dimensional weight for each
of the packages in the package array calculated independently then
added together or are they combined first then used to calculate the
dimensional weight? Any clarification would be greatly appreciated!

Just for anyone that comes across this in the future. My initial understanding of the packages was wrong. Packages are truly that, packages that will be shipped. This is not the same as the items that will be shipped. So when you're calculating your shipping you need to figure out the weight and size dimensions of the actual package that will be shipped.
