Hello all!

April is a beautiful month in Waco, and there are lots of beautiful things going on to help heal poverty in our community and around the world.  See below for your April, May and June events.  Also visit www.actlocallywaco.org to see events posted for the rest of the year. We already have several events posted for October and November.  Do you know of events in the next three months or the rest of the year that would be of interest to people who care about poverty?  Send them in and I’ll get them posted!  The more we know, the more we can help each other.  Let’s keep each other informed!

We will be providing mobile services in the high risk communities, for example Kate Ross, Estella Maxey, East Waco, etc. We will have a event at the Doris Miller YMCA in East Waco on April 28 , 2012 from 10-2pm and we need some volunteers to help assist us. ·        Summer Youth Job Training Program Funds Needed - It costs $800 for a urban teen to get three weeks of intensive pre-employment job training then be placed in a local business for three more weeks, earning a paycheck and beginning their road to self-sufficiency. In many cases, the teens are then hired by the local business or organization in which they were placed. Nothing is as empowering to overcome poverty as a good job, yet many lower-income teens do not have the help to navigate the employment system. Mission Waco’s summer youth employment program depends on outside donations to succeed. If you are interested in helping, just let us know! For more information call Mission Waco 753-4900.
