ACORNS lessons with the Firefox browser on MACS

Firefox version 4 requires JAVA version 1.6. This means that ACORNS
lessons running on Apple computers having JAVA version 1.5 won't work
(Mac OS 10.5). This means that if Firefox is your preferred browser,
don't upgrade to 4.0. The ACORNS lessons still run fine on the Safari
browser.

A new load of ELK is available (as of 1/10/2011). It includes a minor
change to the naming of TTF fonts that are created. If the font name
already ends with the language name, the program does not append the
name of the language to the font again.

Sizing pictures for use in ACORNS lessons

Using large pictures with ACORNS, can create files that are quite
large. It is a good idea to resize them before dragging and dropping
them into an ACORNS lesson. In Windows, double click on the file. This

viewing ACORNS web-pages with Internet Explorer version 8.0

Internet Explorer 8.0 blocks Web-pages containing activex content when
running from the local computer. They call this "local host lock
down." This creates a problem for web-pages created by the ACORNS
application (when clicking on the spider web icon).

Handling audio file formats not supported by acorns

The audio format, wma, is one example of a format not supported by
ACORNS. This is a Microsoft codec. The program, switch, is available
that can easily convert between dozens of audio formats. This program

In Story Book, Hear and Respond, and Hear and Click lessons, after
recording audio and saving, it was not possible to add additional
audio to a recording. A "System Busy" message came up instead when
