Talking of markdown as was earlier mentioned, for us Vim users I have in
my vimrc:

`au BufRead,BufNewFile {*.md,*.mkd,.markdown} set ft=markdown`

to make the reading of said files easier & more wholesome.

The ftplugin/markdown.vim ought to handle that.

That said, I have an alternate set of */markdown.vim http://plasticboy.com/markdown-vim-mode/

It's on Github, too.

Here's hoping that the two markdown.vim maintainers can get together and normalize them into one.

Agreed. I installed Tim Pope's markdown plugin but it didn't seem to
work across the board so, instead of opening an issue, I came across
the above autocmd with a quick Google & used that.

Also helps keep the plugin tally down. Always looking to shave off the
extra milliseconds before launch :-)
