Bespin starts just fine, I can edit, move back and forth between
files, etc.

However, ctrl-j does nothing.

My details:

Firefox 3.5b4
Firebug 1.4.0a28
Mac OS X 10.5.7

Yup, it's a known bug that may or may not be fixed in the latest code
(not yet available on bespin.mozilla.com):
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=491039

I'll have to check on the current status, but follow that bug if
you're interested in finding out what's going on with it.

Thanks for the pointer, Gordon. Sorry for not searching the bug list before posting.

I'll follow the bug to see what happens.

I came across this same problem, and some other slight issues that I
would like fixed.

I solved it by turning off 'Search for text when I start typing' in
the options under Advanced -> Accessibility. This is not something I
like turning off for the purposes of one application. Will there be a
way of blocking this functionality on Bespin in future? I'd also like
the backspace button to have a preventDefault() attached to it so that
it doesn't constantly go back through my history while I'm trying to
edit code.

I'm using FF 3.5b4 on Mac 10.5.7

As I'm told, 3.5b4 has problems with Bespin. The current recommendation is to downgrade 3.1b3 or earlier. (Not sure about upgrading to 3.5rc1 when it comes out next week; I haven't heard anything, but I assume the bug would be fixed by then.)

ctrl-J behavior is fixed on the tip for the "new" command line
interface. There is some more work being done there before we release
that code to bespin.mozilla.com, though.

The backspace button issue is actually something that showed up in FF
3.5b4. Other versions (including Shiretoko nightlies, I believe) do
not have that problem, so I think that was a regression in Firefox.
