Saturday, November 19 8:15 am Quabbin Reservoir. All Day.
We will explore the Quabbin region, which may include Gates 35 or 37,
Quabbin Park, and Royalston center. Target birds will include raptors,
Common Raven, waterfowl, and possibly winter finches. We saw a flock of
Tundra Swans on last year's trip. Expect to do some hiking. Co-sponsored
with the Athol Bird and Nature Club and Brookline Bird Club.
Meeting place: Dunkin' Donuts/Baskin Robbins off routes 110/111 in Harvard
at 7:00a.m. (Take Rt. 2 exit 38B-Routes 110 East/111 North, Ayer. From end

David Brule reading from West Along the River
The public is invited to attend the Annual Meeting of the Millers River
Watershed Council (MRWC), Thursday November 17th at the Millers River
Environmental Center, 100 Main Street in Athol, at 7:30 pm. The meeting
will feature MRWC president David Brule reading from West Along the River, a
recently published collection of articles from his regular Montague Reporter
column of the same name. David grew up in Millers Falls/Ervingside and
returned to live in his great grandfather's house in 1974. His passion for
the river and its local communities is evident in his writings and service
to local organizations. David is the former Chairman of the Foreign Language
Department. of the Amherst Pelham Regional School District, and has been
chairman of the Erving Conservation Commission since 1982.

Guy Biechele, an award-winning fine art and landscape photographer from
Athol, will present a workshop on Macro and close up photography at the
Petersham Craft Center on Saturday, November 19th. Guy is a talented artist
whose many honors have included a solo show at the Museum of Science in
Boston. Participants will learn to create a whole new world of photographic
subjects, from the smallest patterns of nature to the most complex flower.
Equipment and techniques will be discussed, then time will be spent in the
field taking actual photographs to bring back to the classroom to critique
and review.
What to bring: compact digital camera with macro mode or digital single lens
reflex (DSLR) camera with macro lens Also bring if possible a tripod, flash
attachment, and remote shutter release. This class is open to teens and
adults. $20 members, $35 nonmembers

Hikers are invited to a walk along the loop trails at the base of Poplar
Mountain Conservation Area, the Erving Town Forest. The Town of Erving
bought 119-acres of the former Giniusz farm outright in 2007 with assistance
from Mount Grace. This hike is co-sponsored by the Erving Conservation
Commission and will be led by Harry Sharbaugh, who is planning to assist
with the creation of an upper loop trail that will lead to the Poplar
Mountain outlook.
