The reforms comes after the government made it easier for employers to
recruit temporary foreign workers in recent years.
A total of 446,847 foreign workers came to Canada in 2011, including
agricultural workers, more than double the levels of a decade ago.
The program is now heavily used across all sectors of the economy, from
fast-food restaurants and hotel owners to oil patch firms that say
they can’t find enough Canadians to fill vacant positions.

Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney stepped into the debate over the
expanded use of Canada’s temporary foreign workers, advising against
developing “overreliance†on using labour from abroad to fill
low-paying jobs.
Recently released data show the program is now heavily used across all
sectors of the economy, including by fast-food restaurant owners who say
they can’t find enough Canadians to fill vacant positions.
But Mr. Carney countered that the answer to low-skilled labour shortages
is to offer better pay for workers.
“One doesn’t want an overreliance on temporary foreign workers for
lower-skilled jobs,†he said. “It is important over a reasonable
time period to ensure that the market adjusts, and then there will be
productivity and other adjustments that ensure that Canadians are paid
more and that we are a more productive economy as a whole.â€

job. Sure beats the Hindu/Muslim trend of social assistance immigration.
In fact, might be a good idea to try before you commit immigration. If
you come from Mexico or South America and work 5 years, no law breaking
and no welfare you then can become a permanent landed immigrant and
pursue citizenship.
Take Khadr's entire family, still sucking on welfare and social
assistance and never paid a dime for it. Need to stop that Ottawa
idiocracy.

Liberal-socialism is a great idea so long as the credit is good and
other people pay for it. When the credit runs out and those that pay
for it leave, they can all share having nothing but debt and discontentment.

benefits. I saved and invested well enough, eliminated debt in 1992, I
don't need to work any more. I have 30 years of cash flow in the bank,
and that excludes any CPP/OAS I might get. I am self made retired
early. No need to work for a wage, too taxing.

to get off their ass and build a career, get a job, motivate themselves

But again, Canadians are too narcissistic entitled to take those jobs,
lazy too.
So let immigrants in, but shouldn't just be muslim/hindu, lots of
christians in Mexico south. Even Americans, let them in.
Last thing Canada needs is more Khadrs.

I have respect for them as they work, and don't whine like a stuck pig.
In fact, I am all for putting them first in line on the immigration
queue. Ethical hard working people are undervalued but we should value
them more.
