MULTIRACIAL AND BIRACIAL STUDENT ASSOCIATION
Our vision is to promote awareness of multicultural and multiracial identities and interracial relationships which will mediate between different conceptions of diversity and create a culture of understanding among the campus and the surrounding communities.
MIXED MADNESS WEEK - March 1st to March 5th
Monday: "Midnight Mocktail, a Black and White Affair." Free food, mocktails and entertainment!! 6:00 pm- 8:00 pm Atrium Stamp Student Union
Tuesday: "Game Day" We will have several games, free food, alot of fun and prizes so come out! 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Margaret Brent A, Stamp Student Union.
Wednesday: TRUE LIFE: I'm in an interracial relationship. MBSA's interracial relationship panel and discussion featuring faculty and student couples, mixed and non-mixed. Free refreshments! 6:00 pm, Prince George's room, Stamp Student Union.

Friday: Community Service Day: We will be going to Sring Hill Lake Elementary school located in Greenbelt and will be working with kids. We will have several activities such as sports, learning a different language, and much more!. Time: TBD

1.) MICA BROWN BAG - LISA LEE 2/24/10
Hello All,
We cordially invite all to the next MICA Brown Bag Lunch on Wednesday, February 24 featuring Lisa Lee, Publisher of Hyphen Magazine. This program co-sponsored with the Asian American Studies Program fits nicely with the wellness theme of the Division of Student Affairs. The topic of Ms. Lee’s presentation is “Infusing Passion Into A Professional Career Path.” Ms. Lee works fulltime as a specialist for Facebook and runs Hyphen magazine in her spare time. Since becoming publisher of Hyphen, Ms. Lee has increased the magazines readership by ninety percent.
The program will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 in the Adele H. Stamp Student Union – Center for Campus Life, Student Involvement Suite, Terrapin Rooms B & C.

2.) ACTIVE MINDS - VOLUNTEER
Active Minds will host an interactive art event which
seeks to promote peer to peer conversation about mental health issues,
especially suicide on the UMD campus. Members of the UMD community will
be able to decorate a yellow square cloth honoring a loved one lost to
suicide or depict the impact of suicide on the community. The event “Break the Silence, Paint Your Voice” will take place on Wednesday, March 10th,
from 10am-3pm on Hornbake Plaza. If you are interested in volunteering
for an hour or two from 9am to 3pm, please contact Morgane at morgane...@gmail.com.

3.) Summer 2010 Federally-Funded Internships
The Washington Center is pleased to announce that we will continue to
accept applications for our federally-funded summer internship programs until
March 1, 2010. Applications arriving after that date will be considered
on a space-available basis. We hope that you will assist us in reaching
qualified candidates by passing along the information below and directing

Program Details
Selected students will intern for 10 weeks at offices within the Federal
Aviation Administration, the U.S. Department of Defense, Internal Revenue
Service, Department of the Treasury, U.S. Coast Guard, or other government
agencies. The majority of positions will be offered in the fields of business,
computer science, mathematics, statistics, and engineering, so students
pursuing these majors are especially encouraged to apply. Additionally, TWC
encourages students from many diverse backgrounds to apply--including women,
minorities and students with disabilities.

After training, the 2010 Volunteer Day will be held Saturday, March 20,
2010 from 10:30 am - 4:00 pm. (Time shifts will be available) There
will be food, and cultural entertainment including dancing, singing,
drumming and networking with people in the Takoma Park, Hyattsville,
Maryland area. This area is in need of assistance with filling out
their Census 2010 forms and you can help!!!!!
T-Shirts and Volunteer Certificates will be presented to all Volunteers.
However, all students, faculty, staff, and student organization members must be trained!!

Asian Pacific American Legal Resource Center (APALRC)
Summer 2010 Community Organizing Program Internship Positions in Washington, DC
The Asian Pacific American Legal Resource Center (APALRC) is a 501(c)(3) community-based legal
organization that works with low income and limited-English proficient Asian immigrant communities
across the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. The APALRC runs a multi-lingual legal intake helpline, a
legal interpreter project, and provides legal representation and policy advocacy in language access,
immigration, domestic violence and family law, employment, tenants' rights and community planning, and
other areas. The APALRC combines innovative and collaborative approaches to legal services,
advocacy, and organizing to meet emergency needs and address the systemic inequities faced by Asian
American, immigrants, and all residents in our region.
The APALRC has a number of internship opportunities available for Summer 2010
for undergraduates, graduate students, and recent graduates to assist with
outreach and community organizing work in various project areas including
