My name is Elaine Hui, and I am the newly elected 2010-2011 Vice
President of Internal Affairs of AASU. For the next year, you will be
receiving emails from me regarding upcoming events in the APA campus
community. I will also be leading the General Assembly meetings during

2. AASU Community Retreat

The annual summer community retreat hosted by the AASU will take place
early August! Be sure to look out for emails from us in the next
coming weeks for more information!

4. Union of North American Vietnamese Student Association (uNAVSA)
Conference

• The uNAVSA conference is held annually during the summer and
this years will be on July 29th to August 1st in Washington D.C
• This is one of the largest youth conference aimed specifically
towards young Vietnamese Americans
• Through out the conference there will be workshops, speakers,
and open discussion to help develop leadership skills, explore issues
in the Vietnamese American community, network and much much more.

What do you need to do??

• First you need to register an account here, its pretty easy
http://unavsa.org/conference/registration/ just follow the steps
• Fill out your profile
o You'll need a face portrait of yourself to submit because you'll
be getting an awesome name badges
• After you make an account you will need to pay the
registration fee
o Early registration fee: $67.25 ends June 1st
o Regular registration fee: $87.85 beginning June 1st
o Late registration fee: $103 beginning July 17th
• ATTENTION!!!!!
o Last year AAST was able to pay the registration fee for the
attendees
o They were able to pay fully for 4 members, and pay half for 8
other members
o I will talk to AAST this week to see if they are able to help out
again this year
• So for now if you are interested in going, make an account,
fill out your profile, and notify me atmiste...@gmail.com. If
AAST is able to help fund, it will be on a first come, first serve
basis.

5. Summer Institute: Queens College Asian American Center

The Asian/American Center is offering a Summer Institute from July
26-31, 2010 entitled “Studying the Global in the Local: Asian American
Communities in Multicultural Queens” as part of its efforts to build a
new Asian American Pacific Islander Community Studies (AAPICS)
Program.
The Summer Institute will be hosted at the Queens College campus and
all participants will stay at The Summit for the duration of the
program. The week-long program will offer participants the opportunity
to learn about the history and experiences of Asian Americans and
their inter-ethnic relationships in multicultural Queens.
• The Summer Institute will include lectures, neighborhood excursions
and meetings with community leaders.
• We are seeking applications from all candidates aged 18-25
nationwide. Queens College students are also encouraged to apply.
• Room and board will be provided, and students will receive a
stipend.

6. 2010 APIASF Higher Education Summit in Washington, D.C

The first annual Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund
(APIASF) Higher Education Summit: Access and Success: A Discussion on
Asian and Pacific Islander Americans in Higher Education will be held
on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at the Ronald Reagan Building and
International Trade Center in Washington, D.C. The summit will bring
together a multi-cultural group of political leaders, higher education
researchers and administrators, representatives from the private and
government sectors, community organizations and students, to generate
an active dialogue on Asian and Pacific Islander American (APIA)
students in higher education.

Yay, classes and exams are finally over! Though we won't be seeing as
much of you during the break, AASU is still working hard to plan new
and exciting events for you when you come back in the fall. Remember
