We are happy to inform you of a student program offered by The Stamp Student Union - Center for Campus Life's Office of Multicultural Involvement & Community Advocacy and Maryland Leadership Development Program!
The MOSAIC Retreat: Creating Our Leadership MOSAIC will be held the weekend of Saturday, February 27th - Sunday, February 28th.
What is it?
MOSAIC is a two-day, one-night weekend retreat focused on exploring the relationship between diversity and leadership. Interactive sessions and group discussions are designed to create an environment for individuals to examine their identity and how it influences their understanding of and approach to leadership. The event is jointly coordinated by the Office of Multicultural Involvement & Community Advocacy and the Maryland Leadership Development Program in the Adele H. Stamp Student Union - Center for Campus Life; and, is facilitated by both students and staff. Goals of the retreat include developing a stronger sense of self-awareness, examining how identity influences leadership, and engaging in conversations around how to use insights to shape the Maryland campus community.

Why should students attend?
There are many reasons why students should attend this exciting event! First and foremost, it is an opportunity for personal reflection and development. Participation will provide a platform to increase students' level of self-awareness as well as awareness of who you are in relationship to others. Students will also have an opportunity to learn important life skills and concepts that can be applied to life after college. This includes skills that relate to communicating across differences, leadership, and working towards social justice. There will also be a variety of hands-on activities, discussions, and simulation exercises that will help make this a powerful experience. Finally, the MOSAIC retreat is a fantastic way for students to meet new people with similar interests and connect with the University of Maryland community.
Who should attend?
MOSAIC is open to all students from the University of Maryland. Retreat participants will represent the broad interests, experiences, backgrounds, and diversity that can be found here at Maryland. We welcome all students to MOSAIC — in fact, students do not need to be highly involved or the president of a student organization to join us at Camp Letts! We specifically encourage students who are new or "getting their feet wet" with campus involvement to apply, as we hope that emerging leaders can bring some of the good work of this retreat back to College Park.
What is expected out of student participants?
Participants should come prepared to actively engage in dialogue by sharing views, attitudes, beliefs and experiences openly and honestly. The retreat requires an environment in which students will be able to share and express themselves freely. Participants are asked to contribute to this and agree on a mutual set of standards to help them do so. With genuine dialogue comes inherent conflict, but also the possibility of unexpected learning and enormous growth.
Registration and Cost Information
We truly hope that you will nominate students whom you think might benefit from the MOSAIC retreat, and consider a full or partial sponsorship of their registration fees.
Addtionally, even if you do not have any students in mind, we would also like to invite you to consider a full or partial sponsorship for an unsponsored student.

The cost of the retreat will be $35 a student. However, much of the cost for the retreat is covered by the University. Students are asked to contribute to reserve their space and offset costs for food, lodging, and transportation. This fee will be payable by check prior to departure for the event. Sponsoring departments can contact Craig Alimo to manage FRS account transfers (via ISR forms).
Many students have asked campus departments or organizations sponsor their attendance at the event. A limited number of scholarships are also available for students who cannot afford the fee. We will then follow up with nominated students and send them to the registration website. In addition, feel free to include some ‘backup’ names. If a nominated student cannot attend, we will contact the first backup student on the list.

MOSAIC Retreat: Creating Our Leadership MOSAIC ~ Quick Facts
Who: All University of Maryland students
When: Saturday, February 27th (buses depart Stamp Student Union promptly at 8:15am) – Sunday, February 28th (buses return by 5:00pm)
What: A wide variety of experiences, including hands-on awareness building activities, workshops, small group discussions and projects, and whole-group activities and social time.
Registration Details: $35 registration fee includes transportation, meals/snacks, and all conference materials. Registration Deadline, Monday, February 15th. (All conference payments are non-refundable after February 19th.)
