Position Title: Public Programs Producer (Temporary)
Reports To: Director of Marketing and Audience Development Department: Marketing Last revision date: October 2009
POSITION SUMMARY: The Public Programs Producer (Temporary) leads the development and implementation of high-quality programs and events to support EMP’s mission.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Participates in the development and control of the program department budget; prepares financial projections and per event budgets and ensures expenditures comply with same.
2. Participates in development activities; identifies potential sources of funding; participates in the preparation and submission of grant proposals.
3. Review procedures and systems and plans and implements changes as needed to reduce expenses or increase income.
4. Supervises production of public program and marketing events; acts as liaison with other departments to ensure events operate smoothly and efficiently.
5. Participates in marketing of programs including creating advertising, promotional and outreach strategies; writes and edits copy for web and member communications, information brochures, press releases, etc.
6. Represents the department at public events; introduces speakers and performers, monitors audience flow and troubleshoots as needed; supervises volunteer staff at events.
7. Performs managerial duties including interviewing applicants for employment; assigns and reviews progress of assignments
8. Recruits, trains, and supervises interns; provides leadership and supervision for volunteers as needed.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS

To perform effectively in this position, the incumbent must have:
§ A working knowledge of developing and implementing programming for a cultural organization, with emphasis on lectures, literary programs, film, conversation, festivals, live performances, multi-media and other contemporary methods.
§ Demonstrated success creating, developing and implementing effective programming.
§ Relationships and contacts within the music and entertainment industry
§ Very effective oral and listening communications skills and the ability to work effectively with people of diverse cultures, ages, and economic backgrounds.
§ Negotiation skills
§ Supervisory and leadership skills to supervise a staff of from five to ten, plus provide leadership to major projects; Ability to build teams and collaborate with others on major projects.
§ Ability to juggle multiple priorities and conflicting deadlines in a fast-paced rapidly changing environment.
§ Personal computer skills; proficiency utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, multi-media programs.
§ Basic accounting skills to develop and manage budgets.
§ Current and valid driver’s license and proof of insurance if using vehicle while traveling on the EMP business.
§ Ability to write and edit a wide variety of communications materials.
§ Active listening and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop productive relationships across the organization and across the field.
§ A sense for the entrepreneurial, high standards, self-motivation, flexibility, ingenuity, dedication, creativity, enthusiasm and high energy.
§ A keen appreciation and understanding of EMP’s mission
§ Ability to work many evenings and weekends.
Typically, these skills and knowledge are the result of a degree in film, theater, media, marketing or communications or related discipline and/or several years of increasingly responsible professional and managerial experience in similar program/production jobs. Experience working in the music industry or in museum programming essential.
The incumbent must be able to perform this job safely, without endangering the health or safety of him/herself or others.
This position is currently a full time Temporary position however it is extremely likely to become Permanent within the year
