funny conversation last night

My oldest, John, just got his driver's license yesterday.  Last night, we were talking about it with the twins, and John was showing them his license.  I was making a big deal of the fact that he worked hard and did well on the test, so he now gets to drive by hmself, hoping that this would show Josh and Caleb that there can be a reward for working hard on tests.   Joshua wanted to know when HE could get his driver's license.  John answered "when you are big."   Josh's response: "I'm big NOW!"   So we explained all of the rules in great detail, but Josh still isn't convinced that he can't go get a driver's license right away.   I think this may come from all of the years of driving a power chair and having people ask,"do you have a dirver's license for that thing?" because he drives well but fast.  I hope his older brother won't drive as fast as Josh does. :)     Robin

hmmmm.... maybe you can start out by creating a "driving test" for the power chairs both written and driving parts and make it similar to the state test for licenses and then make a license for the power chair for them to drive so when someone asks if they have the license they can say why yes I do.  :-)

we debated making them a fake license for the power chiars.  When they got their newest chairs, the actually did have to do a driving test with a PT, to prove to the insurance company that they could handle it.  He watched them drive in throught he door of the building and downt he hallway, and was ready to write it up right then.  HOwever, the boys insited on having an "official" test done.  So he laughed and ran them both through a quick driving test.   We were afraid that making up a wheelchair drivng license would cause us more problems than it would solve, though.  What if they lost it?  I can jsut seee Josh not being willing to go anywhere without it, but dropping it someplace in the house or worse yet, down a crack in the chair where we can't get it out!    And Caleb has had a fascination with the car keys lately.  He knows where to put them it he car, and has the motor skills to insert and to turn them enough to get the radio to come on.  So we don't want to encourage that!  :(   Robin --- On Sat, 10/10/09, Trishasmom <csvi...@gmail.com> wrote:

I know what you mean, because I stood in front of our car, opening the garage when I suddenly heard the engine go on! Sebastian had jumped from the back seat to the front seat and turned the key. Fortunately I had the car in first gear, so it only leaped one step forward and then the motor stopped. And it was parked so far away that it did not smack me against the garage. I never leave the keys in the car now and I always use the hand brake, even if I am only opening the garage door :-).

Nicole feels "official" whenever she has her rec card or library card on by the necklace holder.  Perhaps it could be as simple as giving them the holders that go around the neck so they wouldn't get lost?

yes, they would LOVE that!   I hand't thought of that!  They have school ID's that they love to keep with them, but we struggle not to lose them.   they use them to check out library books and to buy schooll lunch(except that I pack because of their special diet) They see enough professionals with id cards on those hang thags, that they would think that is very adult and cool.  :)   Robin --- On Sun, 10/11/09, Dawn Caldwell <dcaldw...@comcast.net> wrote:
