I am also, taking every single word from the 144 location, that isn't
on 84, and adding it. There is over a 1000 different word difference,
but when you consider a lot of them are verb forms, it really isn't
that many. It is tedious, because I go into 144 sequenced, and write
down every word a key hit accesses, then after about 5 CORE icons, go
find places for them on 84.
Also adding a ton of verbs. By the time Kendra goes back to school on
the 4th, the device will be a lot easier to use, and I seriously doubt
there will be a word that isn't in her core vocabulary, unless it is a
noun or topic specific. She is learning how to add those nouns to an
activity row anyway.
All of this is possible, because hubby isn't in the house. See, i
knew there was a big advantadge to him leaving, LOL He has issues
when I am on the computer or Eco. he feels ignored, poor baby.
Anyway, we got a Wii Fit Plus for Chrismtas, courtesy of Santa ;) We
are all having a blast with the balance games! My boys like the
strength training.

So, I wrote out a 2 page letter, explaining the objectives for this
way of thinking. I asked that we target verbs only for now, in every
single subject. If each teacher would have Kendra find 5 verbs
dealing with the subject, every single day, it would take only 5
minutes of class, would give her practice all day long, she could work
on artic for those same verbs, and it woudl help her feel more
confident than the current system. Here is what usually happens. The
slp asks her if she knows how to find those words I write the
sequences down, herself, she says NO, and that's the end of the
discussion. The slp gets upset because Kendra says she doesn't know
where anything is, even though I tell her constantly she does know
where words are. So, our major hurdle is to get Kendra practice,
finding words' so she is confident enough to want to use the device.
I KNOW from very recent experience at home (yesterday), that if the
Eco is nearby, and I can
t understand the word, she will use the Eco. I couldn't understand
the word busy. We have previously looked up that word. She powered
on the Eco, hit apple+apple+adj. and told me the word BUSY. Counting
turing on the Eco, and hitting 3 keys, it took less than a minute!
Lots of experience, sometimes she can spend 5-10 minutes trying to
explain or describe a single word, before I get it sometimes. A
minute on the Eco sure is a time saver! Even if she had to go to
spell page and use tutor on the fly, or use the icon tutor, or word
prediciton, it still woudl have been faster than playing 20 questions
with her.
Anyway, AFTER, i gave the slp the 2 pg letter, she tells me do you
know the IEP is next month? LOL I pointed tot he letter, and I said,
there are the goals I want to see implemented. I agrreed to help make
flashcards, but I want to know if I go to all the trouble of printing,
cutting, laminating, color coding, writing sequences on the back,
putting on keyrings, and making a master list by catgegory,that the
whole system is going to get used for more than one therapy session a
year!
