Borzoi are a large windhound from Russia. One way of thinking of them is that they are "winter hardy versions of the greyhound"

The purpose of this group is to (1) provide a forum for the discussion of Borzoi Pedigrees and (2) provide a  public site for the announcement of litters, including a description of the litters and contact information.

The group is world viewable but you must be a member to post.

Membership will be revoked for posting extensively off topic (such as advertising your surfboard polishing business), flaming and negative discussions of the personal lives of people.

The orientation of this group is to be one of helpful information sharing concerning the history and heritage of Borzoi.

Whenever possible, in discussion Borzoi heritage it is very helpfule to be able to provide a reference to a source for you information. Sources vary in their authority.

It is always useful to have the Borzois\\47 full name and its date of birth and registration number. Although the AKC makes and effort to not duplicate registered dog names, other kennel clubs do not and so you also need the registration number in many situations. The early Russian pedigrees are especially difficult because simple names were used and reused for different dogs over the years.

Sources with high levels of authority include studbooks and official kennel club documents and certificates, actual copies of registrations papers and certified pedigrees. Stud books from the country of initial registration of the dog are more reliable than studbooks of secondary countries of registration. Kennel Club Certified pedigrees are good.

Pedigrees in yearbooks and magazines and information from dog show catalogues are amazingly subject to error.
