Dollar-A-Day Concert is one of the most meaningful events I have ever participated in my life. Before I go to the concert, I thought it is just like the "Summer Music Concert" or the "Production" (which is basically a really small concert). When I stepped on the fifth floor on that day, I was so surprised at how the set-up looks like.

I arrived at around 4:00, at that time, people are testing the microphones on the stage. I just can't believe that it is so professional that it is just like a concert held in Causeway Bay. There are those stages where the popular singer sings, the lighting effects that you see in Hong Kong Coliseum. Finally, in school, there is a concert that is really like a crowded fair in Canada/US, with stalls and music. The stalls are wonderful, and I don't expect that much from the school. But one thing that is missing is the smell of hotdogs. In Vancouver, when there is a fair, there are always a big smell of hotdogs. That's the only thing that I think the school should improve on.

I actually saw Mr. Copus on that day, but unfortunately, he did not see me. What I am doing in the Dollar A Day Concert is to sing the National Anthem of South Africa "Nkosi Sikelel iAfrica" and play the piece "Fever" for the Girl's Choir. It is so fun being the performer. Although when I play the piano for "Fever", I was afraid because I just found out that the sound comes out from the piano is very loud, and if I press a note wrong, the audience will say "This choir is not professional."

Overall, I enjoyed Saturday's Shows very much! I am looking forward to the next Winter Concert!

I participated in the parts where the ASA choir people were supposed to perform, because every Monday after school in room 409 there is a choir rehearsal, for secondary students who is interested or would like to join...... There is no auditioning. The first song we learnt was Bonse Aba. We practised it for most of the rehearsals. Which made us easily remember the lyrics and the notes since they are very similar and we kept practising for it.

The second song we learnt is NKOSI SIKELEL' iAFRIKA. I used is because we haven't officially finished learning the whole song for this song. There was also some changes about how we were supposed to perform it. The thing I like about the charity concert was that I get to be with my friends from other grades and watch the show together.

The thing that I disliked about the charity concert was that for the last performance for the people who performed and helped out, we didn't rehearse it all together and we just randomly stood into available places, even though I originally stood on the second row where I could be seen but then I thought we had to be in order, so I went to find who were standing beside me for my first performance but I couldn't...... Therefore, I stood on the third row. At first, Mrs.Murchie said everyone was going to sing what we sang for our first performance during this performance, but then the piano started playing WE ARE THE WORLD and everybody started singing that. Which made me stood there closed mouth for most of the time and sang the lyrics that are kept being repeated...... Then when we were done singing the song, everybody prepared to leave the stage but then the pianist started playing a new song, which made most of us hesitate about leaving the stage but obviously left at last.

Journal- Charity concert

On Saturday, there is a charity concert at school. This concert’s main idea is to raise money for the people in needed in the mainland of china and help to improve their living conditions and their needs. The money will be sent to many charities and help the people in needed. There is a massive stage built on the fifth floor playground, I am also one of the performers on stage that day, I have participated in the choir, girls choir and the drama singing. We have to sing the South Africa anthem, “Fever” and “saw her standing there”.  It is a really interesting idea to raise money by a concert, people who spent their money on buying the ticket, the money will also be sent to the charities. And there are also many other students who have volunteered to have a stall to sell things or an activity to play such as selling cupcakes, cookies, books etc.  That Saturday night was very fun and I really like the way the ticket is made, it is a plastic bracelet and you have many colors to pick, on that day we can go in and out the concert with the bracelet in your hand, which I think is a very cool and brilliant idea of having a ticket as a bracelet. Hope the money that was sent to the charities can help the people in needed.

Der Charity Concert.

Saturday was the charity concert, it was a very successful event. The school raised a lot of money for the charities of mainland china and Africa etc.

It as a huge event, they had a huge stage built on the 5th floor outdoor area, there were professional bands that came to perform, bands from our school, dance crews, choirs, food stalls by students etc. There were a lot of students that participated. It was the first time for me to see a event that so many parents and teachers involved, singing, promotion etc.

I was involved in the choir performances, singing the South Africa Anthem and the song “I saw her standing there” . It was a memorable experience to perform on such a big stage, all the lightings and mic and stuff. It was very impressive and massive.

I liked a lot about the whole stage set up and that a lot of people get to participate and be part of the performance and have fun. It was a good thing that the school allow the students to set up their own stalls to raise more money and also show their talent. Morever it gives a better environment for people to entertain themselves, the food stalls, game stalls etc.

It was a very fun night, where the school can raise money to help and poor and also allow us to have fun. :)

VSA Dollar-A-Day Charity Concert (13.10.2012)

Last Saturday was 13.10.2012. To many people, it might have just been a normal day. But to us, students from VSA, it has been a fun and meaningful day.

Our school organized a charity concert at the open area outside the hall. It starts at 5:30 in the afternoon and ends at 8:00. When I first saw the surrounding, I was shocked. It was like a professional concert organized in Causeway Bay. It was an outdoors concert and the lighting effects were awesome. The music bass was really 3D and I enjoyed the music. There were many student bands performing and it was stunning. There was also dancing performance and solos. Parents and people from everywhere are welcomed. There were also food stalls and game sections. Teachers, parents and students cooked delicious food and sell them out for a cheap price. All the money raised on that day would go to the Global Poverty Group. They will use the money to help the students in need in China, to build a better learning environment.

Everyone in that concert was really happy and emotional; it was my first time seeing Mr. Parker dancing and jumping around, teachers and students were all dancing and singing along. Comparing to the Christmas Ball, this event was way better. The only thing to improve on is the entrance management. It was very crowded and people were pushing because there’s only a thin pathway to go through. Also, there were not enough wristbands. Therefore, we need to buy walk-in tickets.

This concert didn’t waste my day. I can improve my friendship between my friends and on the other hand, I can help the people in need. I support our school to organize these kinds of events and I’m looking forward to the next one.

This is actually an entry about the charity concert held on 13th of October. Mr. Copus expects us to write about the night if we went, but unfortunately, I hadn’t, but why am I still writing this? That’s because I was originally part of the performance. I’m supposed to sing in the girl’s choir and the school choir, but I didn’t attend it.

A week or two ago, I’ve successfully convince Mrs. Murchie that I had a family dinner and I couldn’t show up at the concert. That dinner was special cause’ it’s my birthday dinner at my Granny’s house! I wouldn’t want to move that a week earlier or later! Besides, I had a rehearsal for “Alice in Wonderland” at another organization (yes, coincidentally!) at 4:00 – 6:00. So the concert clashed with my normal Saturday classes anyways.

I knew it wasn’t really nice, so I took responsibility and decided to buy a wristband everyone was wearing that week. One day after lunch, my friend and I wanted to buy one, but the prefects declined our donation offer. We were flustered, but the prefects said because we wouldn’t attend the concert we should leave the wristbands for the people who actually wanted to go and would go. We found that weirdly funny because we distinctly remembered that Mrs. Murchie told us “you should buy a wristband to show support even though you wouldn’t go” just that morning. Still, we took a pity on other students who didn’t buy a wristband and I donated 20 dollars to “show my support”.

Charity Concert

2 days ago, there was a massive concert- DOLLAR A DAY CHARITY

CONCERT-   It was organized by Mrs. Murchie. There were performances, stalls and a lot  of other stuff. There was gigantic stage built! It

really looked like a professional stage with lights and everything!  It was way cool and totally amazing!

I was involved in the performance. My part was just singing. I was singing

with the people from drama, people from the girls choir and all the people together

singing. The song that we were singing for drama, which by the way is performing

“Alice in the Wonderland” in November, was “Saw Her Standing there”, all of us

wasn’t really used to having an audience looking us, so we were all really stiff  and

didn’t move as much as we did during our personal rehearsals. It was quite

awkward I have to admit but very fun J For The Girl’s choir, we sang “Fever”, we

didn’t sing as good as we did during rehearsals. I kind of forgot the lyrics and the

notes and screwed up the song and I was standing in the front line, in front of the

mic. That was pretty embarrassing. I think the audience could probably tell that I

was really nervous, since I was. But even though all those cons happened but I had a

lot of fun! And the food there was great! I liked the spring rolls and cookies (:

In my perspective, the performances weren’t as good as I thought they would

be. I liked the dance groups- Bone Crushers and Untitled G, the 4 girls who sang

“Invisible”, The Little Beans and Gigi Pang, I thought they were amazing. They were

the only shows that I enjoyed the most. The others weren’t as good as expected. I

also liked the guys who were playing on those huge drums, at first it was great but

then got a bit boring but I was still great! That was a great night! Hope that the

school arranges more of these events, because this way students can get more

involved and show their talent to the whole school. If the school really does organize

another event like this, I hope I have the courage to be a performer :D

Overall, it was great day and I hope the school raised a lot of money to help out with the charities :)

The Charity Concert

What I like about the charity concert is that we really have donated a lot of money to the people who are needed, buying the colourful plastic bands to persuade us to donate more money is a really fantastic idea, because that is what the teenagers love about it. For the thing that I disliked is that there are no chairs for the audiences so we have to stand up and watch the whole concert, this made me feel so tired.

I was the audience. However I was participating the selling part. Celia, Ellise, Ingrid and I were selling the stationaries and some pop candies. We did not earn much money for our store, we still enjoy the whole period of time though!

Overall, I think the whole concert was absolutely great!
