After watching three episodes of the same TV Program, post a three paragraph "Stage 2" response here.  Stage 2 is explained below:

Stage 2: Analysis of Form
What episodes did you watch?

From watching three episodes, you should be able to describe the “form” of the show. Bronwyn Williams describes the form: “The form of the program acts as a template for each week’s episode, so that any viewer gets to experience the essential form of the program time and again” (58). So, that means, describe a basic episode. What usually happens? To what degree are the shows that you are examining predictable?

What role did music / sound effects play in each episode? Are certain sounds associated with particular characters or themes? Are sounds matched to the mood of a character (or characters)? What do the sound effects add to the program — are they an integral part of the show, or just extra noise?

VICTORIOUS
I watched episode 11, 12 and 13 from season two.Victorious is a sitcom played in Nick, but i watched it through links in youtube.
After watching a few episodes, i think that the 'form' of the show. in each episode, there's usually an event, that happens among the group of main characters or in the school the characters go to, Hollywood arts High school. They have mostly a song in each episode. I can sometimes predict what would happen next, but still very entertaining to watch.
Music and sound effects play a big role in the show. The students in Hollywood arts are very talented, so they often have music in the show, so there are a lot of songs involved, and sound effects helps show the mood and what the tension is in the scene.

Certain sounds are associated and matched to the mood of a character with particular characters and themes. Sounds are  matched to the mood of a character. The added sounds when performers are about to perform onstage are an integral part of the show or some people may say that it is extra noise.

So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD)

I watched season09's episodes 01-09 actually. So You Think You Can Dance is a TV show about people from the age of 18-30, going through auditions, eliminations, comments from judges and dancing their hearts out to be America's favorite dancers.
From episodes 01-04, it's stage one of the auditions. All the dancers have to perform their own choreography and try to impress the judges to win a ticket to Vegas for stage two. Then episode 05, it's about the audition in Vegas, 181 dancers get to Vegas and go through 8 rounds of auditions and eliminations, 20 will make in the end of the week. From episode 06, we find out which of the people are eliminated and which are in the top 20. In the episode, and only that episode, were they able to enjoy themselves and able to let the judges praise them on what talented and amazing dancers they are. There were about 5 or more performances in groups of people who were in the top 20, dancing in their own group's genre. Then after all the groups finished dancing, the top 10 girls dance a routine and then the top 10 boys do a routine and at the end the top 20 do a routine. From episode 07, the top 20 were partnered with up, 2 in one pair one boy one girl and they perform a number and America votes for them. But three boys and three girls are in danger and the judges can save 1 boy and 1 girl or in another episode save 2 boys and 2 girls, and 1 or 2 boys and 1 or 2 girls are going to have to leave the competition.
Well there is definitely music in all the dances. All the dancers are stunning. My favorite couple would have to be Audrey and Matt! When they did the Titanic piece choreographed by Travis Walls, it was absolutely amazing and flawless.

Stage 2 Analysis of Form --- American's Got Talent

I continued to watch American's Got Talent over the long Christmas Holiday. This time, I have chosen to watch American's Got Talent Season 5 Top 10 Episode 1, Episode 2 and Final Round Episode 1. Although this TV programme had broadcasted long time ago, I still can find this TV programme on YouTube. Therefore, I chose to watch it there. While watching the three episodes, I found one interesting thing.

I noticed that there was a kind of form of the show. In every episode, it seems that they always have a kind of format which you can predict or know what is going to be happen next in the episode. At the beginning of the show, there was always a MC introducing the performance. Then, the judges would give some comments to the contestants about their performance. Afterwards, the MC would ask about the feelings of the contestants after performing. At last, they would announce the results of which contestants was selected to be eliminated and advanced in the next round of competition.

Just like other reality show I have seen on television, America's Got Talent uses some special kind of music to add tension to the programme when announcing the winner or the advanced contestants. The music really matches the contestants 's expression when standing on the stage preparing to hear the results. The competitors always look worried about the results at that time. The used suitable music to make the show more interesting. I have enjoyed the show so much with the wonderful sound effects they have added.

The Amazing Race (Stage 2: Analysis of Form)

I watched Season 21 Episodes 1, 2, and 5.

In each episode, teams of two race against each other in a place around the world. There are lots of different tasks and difficulties. One team arrives first and probably wins a prize and the last team is eliminated or penalized. What happens on the show is very predictable but the outcome is not.

The music and sound effects give a rushed feeling or suiting the place and people. Yes, certain sounds are associated with particular characters or themes. Sounds may be matched to the mood of a character. The sounds are both an integral part of the program and just an extra noise.

Austin & Ally
It has been a long winter break and i have been watching some tv. Some of the most memorable episodes are Season 1's episode 1, episode 4 and season 2's episode 5. Mean while, this TV program has gone to Season 2's episode 5. Austin & Ally is a sitcom played in Disney Channel every friday. I usually watch it on youtube since it has a large variety of episode i can choose. After watching more than 5 episode of Austin & Ally, i found the form or idea about this comedy show. Austin is a singer and Ally is the song writer. Along there is two friends that gets in charge of Austin's different part of career. Austin's best friend Dez is the film maker, Ally's best friend, Trish is the manager of Austin's career. They call them "Team Austin" Most episodes is about finding inspiration of a new song and having new experience in Miami ( where they live) other episode tends to give a plot for either one of the character or all of the character. In each episode, they usually presents a thrilled and unique piece of new song. In each situation, it brings out a lot out of my laugh and in every start of the episode give you a brief introduction of the situation using comedy. One of the example on S01E04. In the start, it brings out Ally with a brand new song for Austin. When Austin  finish hearing a song, he made a white lie to Ally saying the song was great. However Austin feels that the song is totally opposite to him. They decide to hang out more and know more about each other. The remaining of the episode shows Austin bringing to awesome places where Ally brings Austin to boring places since Ally's whole life was lacking of social life. In the end they had great idea of the song when they were showing each other their hobby, while Dez and Trish who were suppose to be adversary partners found something in common and became friend which was the most hilarious part. On of the most memorable joke was when trish the manager was trying to find how far was Time Square from new york to the airport with his mobile phone app called Chiri (we call it Siri), however Chiri heard it as Tim Square pizza in Miami. Trish was so fustrated and said " Chiri, your yourless", then Chiri said "Searching Arger management center" Trish was so fustrted that she threw her phone.=

In this TV show, music is so-called the most important part of the TV show cast. Each of them have a unique talent about making music video, they often make a song per episode and each song gives a really special remedy to me that makes me feel that this TV show is so acclaimed. In the first episode, Austin accidentally stole Ally's song by his subconscious (complicated story) and turn in to a internet overnight sensation. Then after a big arrange, they turn partners. Austin as the singer and performer and Ally as the songwriter. I the commedy it often make some laugh inorder to show where we should laugh,  and sound effects helps show the mood and what the tension is in the scene. Since Ally's dad own a music instrument company, Austin can always try instrument for their song and start concerts there. Whcih then would involve alot of singing.

Over the christmas holiday, I watched three episodes of men vs wild. Men vs Wild is a tv show about a person surviving in the wild with limited resources and finding ways to find food and stay hydrated. What mostly happens in episodes are that the person needs to pass a river, or climb a hill. And he will think of solutions to reach his aim. He will also find food anywhere, for example finding bugs in trees etc. Music effects the mood of the audience. For example when he is doing something really dangerous in the show, there will be some exciting music which makes the mood of the audience become for excited.

I watched man vs. wild season 7 episodes 3,4,5

The role of music in the show is changing the mood of the scene. The music sometimes is fast, sometimes is slow. The aim of music changing fast because he find animal to eat. The aim of music changing slowly because it is night or he is tired. The music always happens in the show. I find out it is very important to show the mood of the story.

The sound changes depending on the mood of the story. The sound also changes depending on the environment or event. Example he ran in to a cobra snake, the music broke the silent, and changes to fast music.

The sound matches with character when the event happens or the scene of the show. Example he got rescue by sailor, the music changes to be peaceful.

The sound effect in the program are necessary because it effects the whole story and the mood. A show with sound or music is very boring. Example he went in to a cave to explore for way to come to back to human civilization.

Hannah Montana (comedy-young adult)

I had watched Hannah Montana episode 90, 94 and 98 (Hannah Montana forever- season 4- 5 9 13). I love this series very much since Miley Cyrus is my favorite female singer. This TV showis an American television series and film which has 98 episodes and 4 seasons. The series is about a girl lived a double life- an average teenage school girl named Miley Steward (played by Miley Cyrus) by day and a famous pop singer named Hannah Montana by night. Only her family and close friends knows this huge secret.

Like other shows, the opening and closing theme songs are sung and featured by one or more cast in the series or film. SInce this Series is about Miley as a singer and band vocal, the theme songs should be sung by her. Also throughout the whole series excluding the movie, there are background effects such as people laughing. Different from other Comedy and young adult films like Zack and Cody and Suit Life n Deck, it is made by computer graphic which for Zack and COdy, there's real audience.

If you pay more attention to the changing scenes in the show, you can hear some singing sounds by Miley as if to make the whole film more alive, and not too plain while the changing scene.

Victorious
Season 4

I'm responding Season 4 Victorious episode 51,52,53, i started to realized the form of the show, every character are involved in something big happening and is very hilarious. And the ending is always unpredictable because they always will have a unexpected way to solve the problem, which is very exciting. Victorious is played on Nickelodeon, and i watched it on Youtube. There are very many music in it, and the people in it is very talented and some of the episodes have a song performed in a event that is inside the school or outside the school. Sound effects are add to the episode and it effects the whole scene by playing the happy song or the bad song. It is very useful, because it helps the   audience to have a better understanding to each character, which were matched to the character.

Stage 2 response -- The suite life on deck

Over the christmas holiday i watch a lot of TV programs, but my favorite TV program is The suite life on deck because i think it is very entertaining to watch and has a great sense of humor in the episodes. I usually watch the episodes online on youtube. The episode that i watch were episode 18,19 and 20.

In this show there are a pair of twins who is living on a ship and are trying to graduate from the high school that they are in. Along the way the twins gets into all these kind of troubles with his friends but at the end they always find a way to solve their problem and get every thing back to normal.

They use a lot of music and sound effects to make the mood of the theme they are currently in, and also to show the feelings of the characters. The sounds that they play match the over all mood of the characters, and the sounds also add more excitement to the show making the show more fun and enjoyable to watch.

Stage 2: Analysis of Form

In the Christmas I had seen a TV show called The Walking Dead, I had saw the episodes 1,2,3, in this show, I had heard some very scary, when the zombies came then people need to run and so much blood, and with fast beats, when there is no zombies then there will be so quiet, because there is zombie everywhere so it is so quiet. When it is in night, it is more scary, because we can see zombie everywhere. But sometimes there is morning and there is zombie we can see all the colors or body’s of zombies and there is no music so this show is not always scary.

Stage 2: Analysis of Form
Television Show: Adventure Time

Episodes Viewed: Season 2's Episodes 1-6

Adventure Time is a quirky cartoon series that airs on Cartoon Network, I recently found the time to watch three episodes of this particular show, and took some notes regarding the overall structure that the episodes share and how influential sound and music could be when it comes to mood and atmosphere in television shows.

The overall structure of Adventure Time is pretty easy to grasp since it’s a show intended for children, however the show’s producers will occasionally mess around with the formula, and every episode’s structure will vary slightly.

Every episode starts with Finn the human and his magical talking dog, Jake, finding out about a problem or a form of trouble that’s threatening the joy and goofiness of the land of Ooo. They will then seek out to solve the problem, and episodes usually end with a dramatic/ humorous confrontation with the episode’s antagonist, who is usually the Ice King, a recurring villain character. Every episode is split into 2 parts, with every part being 11 minutes long. The punchline “Adventure Time!” is usually incorporated into the episode as a recurring feature.

Music is very important in Adventure Time as they help set the mood for scenes and even entire episodes. Lighthearted music is featured prominently in almost every episode as they go along well with the show’s goofy and fun art style, but the show will occasionally take a more serious and scary turn as frightening and suspenseful scenes do occur in multiple episodes of Adventure Time, such scenes are usually paired with psychotic or sinister tracks to give the viewer a sense of fear and danger.

Jerry Wong 8-6 Stage 2 response

I have watched Scam city by National Geographic Channel. This show is about how to prevent being scammed in large cities around the world. Those episode I watched is about Rio, Barcelona and Las Vegas.

The show’s form is like this, every time, the host would go to a place around the world to uncover the scams in those city which looks like the best place for tourist to be. The host would meet those person who do scams and try to be scammed so to teach us not to be scammed by using hidden cameras. Also, the host would usually meet a local police to know how serious the scams are in every place. The show also includes some parts where the host would try to scam someone, if successful, they would return those things scammed to the owners. This show uncovers the dark sides of the city known every day where tourists go. It is pretty interesting to see how the scam happens. This show is quite unpredictable because we don’t know if the scams can actually successfully happen. Also, those scammers may also be mad and start to fight with the host. In one of the episodes, the host met with people who make fake notes in one of the places and they were holding shotguns with them, very scary as we don’t know will they fire it, if the scammers do really fire the shotguns, it would be a crazy scenario.

There are no music background which are symbolizing feelings. In this show, music don’t play an important place.

In this holiday I've watched episode 5,6,7 a total of three episode of Man VS Wild, Man vs Wild is a not a scripted TV show. Featuring Bear Grylls, he is retired American solider. This show is a show teaches audience skills and techniques to survive in nature. Bear Grylls try to survive with a limited resources in wild, he will alone in wild with only a person who will film. This show will usually uses the sound of drum to create a scary, dangerous sound to let the audience to fit in. The sound of the music really fits the program because this show is talking about surviving in the wild, and surviving always gives us a scary, dangerous feeling.

Stage 2- Aaron Wang Y8J- Design Squad

During the holiday, I watched numerous episodes of Design Squad, a show about reality show about teenagers who are engineering and innovating. Whoever wins at the end of the season wins a $10000 scholarship. The episodes that I watch were Season 1 Ep. 1, 2, and 5. Episode one is called “The need for Speed”, where a professional racecar builder challenges the teams to make motorized drag racers out of kiddie toys. Episode two is called “Rock On”. In this episode, the teams have to create an original musical instrument for the local band, Off White Noise, who will use the instruments during a show. And finally, episode 5 is called “Got Game”, in which the two teams have to come up with a way to cover all the angles of a basketball game with remote controlled cameras. After watching the episodes on YouTube, I stared to notice a trend in the way the episodes were presented.

During the first season, the competitors are divided into 2 groups, one red and one blue. They are then given a task that involves creating a thing for the client. First they are given a time limit, a budget that they can spend on making the product, and a challenge given to them by the client. They first brainstorm as a team, think of the design of the product, and then they are given materials to build the product. To buy the materials that are not provided, half of each team go shopping for the required materials. They then have a few days of the build stage, during this time; the teams start to create their design. After the time is up, both of the teams present their product to the client and the client select the one that she or he likes the most. The team that won are then given points and the episode ends. Between each episode, the teams are scrambled which changes the playing fields and the way the competitors work with each other. This makes each episode different and unique, as the competitors have to work with people they may or may not work well with them while they learn to solve problems and compromise amongst themselves.

This show showcases the development of the competitors, how each one contributes to the team, how they can come up with innovated inventions for the client and how they react when things don’t go as according to plan.

Top Gear
I watched 3 episodes of top gear which is in series 12. This three episodes are talking about three hosts choosing different early 40's cars to modify as long as they don't add modern engines and chassis from sports cars. They've walked through deserts, forests, and battlefields to race against each other, testing their limits and the limits of their modified cars. As long as we didn't learn their bad jokes, we can learn different knowledge of cars. This is a car show with three humorous hosts. The sound and the music is not important because we should listen to the sounds of cars not some music, but some appropriate music can change the atmosphere of the show.
