comparing two corpora
|
| |
Dear Mike,
I try to compare two corpora.
My main question is:
Would you suggest that all the word that appear (p value < 0.00001)
and have a positive keyness are key? the alternative would be to
choose from these word only a fraction of these (let's say with
keyness > 150). in other words, is there a threshold for the degree of... more »

convertion of lemmatised list
|
| |
Hello Mike,
we have a problem with converting an old lemmatised list. The list was
created using WordSmith 3. Though we proceeded the convertion
according to the advices in the help function it wasn't possible to
convert the list in WS4 - the convertion dialog box always noticed
"found 1 list, converted 0".... more »

licence/ convertion of lemmatised list
|
| |
Hello Mike,
I have 2 questions.
1. Our institute in the University Leipzig has purchased a 10users
licence for WordSmith 4. Can we use the registration codes also for
WordSmith5 or do we have to purchase a new licence?
2. We have a large lemmatised list which was created in WordSmith 3 -
is it possible to use the list with WordSmith 5?... more »

2 instances of Concord (or of the whole program)
|
| |
Someone asked this:
I searched through the User Manual of WS5 but couldn't find I what I'm
looking for: is there a way to open two instances of the Concord
funtion (respectively with 2 different stopword lists)? That would be
a great help, since I am working with two languages and have to make
comparisons back and forth within the corpora in these two languages.... more »

| |

stop at between 95 - 99 and then starts at the bottom of the Concord
window another computing showing percentage numbers. The problem is
that WS5 takes much longer to compute a large corpus than WS4!!! And
each time I have to use the Suspend button!!! Am I getting something... more »

Problem loading texts
|
| |
Hi there, I am having a problem to load texts from my corpus for the concordance search. My corpus comprises 33 texts, but WST only loads correctly 2 of them. For the rest, it only recognizes less than 10 words (when the texts are considerably larger). I have noticed that, as a matter of fact, the two texts that have been... more »

Stoplist in WordSmith Tools 4 -
|
| |
Hi,
I am currently working on a corpus on annual reports, and there is a
lot of 'noise' coming up (in this case mostly company names), which I
want to exclude as I don't consider them as lexical items. I know the
stoplist function allows me to do so, but is there a limit to how big
the stoplist may be?... more »

Updating the formulae in the user's manual?
|
| |
Could you please update the formulae in the user's manual? I'd like
to see what you're using for the t-score. Also, are the other ones
accurate for what you're now doing in WST5?
Thanks.

Hi all, I have read on the online manual that it is possible to create a Keywords cluster list, but I don't know how to do it. What should I do once I have the keyword list in order to obtain the cluster list? I click the tab clusters that appears at the bottom of the Keywords screen, but I get this... more »
