Dear Franklin Park Friends:

Maybe it really is spring! Join us this Sunday, May 3rd at 4:00 pm for the popular Weeds as Feed Edible Plants walk in Franklin Park. Learn what can heal you and what you can eat. Believe it or not, spring shoots of the incredibly invasive, Japanese Knotweed, are delicious when cooked into a rhubarb-like compote (and baked with a brown sugar topping!) Bring a trowel and bag for harvesting; there'll be a treat to sample. Led by local naturalist and FPC member, Pamela Kristan. Meet at the Williams Street Entrance to the park along Forest Hills Street.

We are excited to have FPC member and park neighbor, Barbara Ferrer, speaking at the Franklin Park Coalition Annual Meeting later this month. Mark your calendars and be sure to join us!

Healthy Parks mean Healthy People: The Powerful Link between Greenspace and Public Health
Saturday, May 16th 10:00 am - Franklin Park Coalition Annual Meeting
Guest Speaker: Barbara Ferrer, Director, Boston Public Health Commission
Light breakfast buffet at the Franklin Park Golf Clubhouse; please RSVP

Because the annual spring volunteer day was rained out (except for few hardy volunteers who came anyway), the winter trash is still littering some of the park's woodlands. If you are out for a walk, bring a bag with you and pick up a few pieces. Together we'll keep Franklin Park beautiful!

Last, but not least, let the Mayor know you want to see horse patrols in Franklin Park this summer! Both the Park Rangers and Boston Police mounted program are eliminated in the proposed budget. They are not a huge expense, but can make a big difference in our park and throughout the city. Email or call and help save the horses!
