A message from Elizabeth
Stevenson
Hi there--I hope you're all
looking forward to the first Final Friday of
2006--we've got a somewhat
unusual event planned, but I think it will be pretty
interesting. In
collaboration with Ballet Wichita, we're excited to present an
exhibition entitled 'Living
Statues'. From a visual art perspective, it's an
exploration of the body as
sculpture, while simultaneously an exercise in
interpretive movement for the
dancers: ten or so Ballet Wichita students will
perform a series of tableaux
throughout the evening, coordinated by a
soundtrack composed
specifically for the event. If you're an artist, and
interested in figure drawing,
this could also be the perfect opportunity to
work on some quick
sketches. The short poses will last between three to five
minutes, so you're welcome to
bring paper and pencil (or watercolors, charcoal,
whatever), and set up in the
space for as long as you'd like. If you're pleased
with any of your drawings,
you can hang them in the gallery for the duration of
the evening--I'll set
anything left after 10 p.m. out on the front dock the
next day, should you want to
keep your work. See you Friday night! Doors
open at 7, and the event is
free and open to all ages.
