I'm really excited about our meeting today and can't wait to work with Don!

John, Would you please make sure and send Don:
1) pdf. of the Authorization form (or link to the wiki, I guess)
2) list of CRATEL equipment
You may also ask if he'd like to join our google group.
I just thought we could send him all of this at once.

Talked to Dan Davis, who books the Electric Snake... he's way excited
and will be at the show on Saturday. He's cool with us recording his
group that night and thinks that the rest of the bands will be down,
too. I don't know what all bands are playing, though. Don thought the
show would open at 7 and start closer to 8. I have Dan's contact info
if anyone wants to reach him. The Electric Snake is just North of
Harry and Washington. It's on the backside of a bar and you have to
park in a dirt lot behind it. The place looks like a garage, and I
don't think there are any big signs or anything televising the place.

Aren't the names "Don Landis" and "Dan Davis" way too similar to
include mulitple times in the same email?

I've sent this email to Don.

Don't forget to check on Internet possibilities next time you are at the
Electric Snake. :-)

Geez. I don't think that's the same electric snake....
http://electricsnake.net/
but maybe we should see if we could do some remote broadcasts when
*these* guys go out and do their thing. maybe make a documentary or
something...
or just get some sweet sound clips to use for the voicers we're recording...

thanks for the reminder about the Internet situation

This is good info Lauren, thanks for taking care of that! If I don't see you tomorrow, I'll see you on Saturday....

Definitely agreed. However, we are fairly easy to tell apart when
placed side by side. Dan Davis is the one who can play an instrument.
Plus, he has most of his hair still. Lucky guy!

Saturday night should be very interesting, as we are planning to use 2
recording setups and then compare results.

Sorry I have been out of the loop - been down with the flu - but I am back in action now. . .  though going out of town today and will miss all of the excitement this weekend.

anyway, ran across this cool new recorder and thought it may just be an option for recording shows (and more - very functional).  Check it out!

Peace!

This is awesome!  Although my level of expertise w/field recording is nil, as I am just a beginner, but I think that the 4-track capabilility is incredible for such a small device, not to mention the fact that we can go straight into a laptop from it, right?  Good looking out, Kevin!  Have a good weekend.

I am checking on this recorder. Do you know anything about it? I went to the site, and it looks great. I called Samson and got a dealer in Wichita. The list price is $500, but he will sell it for $300. Russ

Russ,

That sounds like a good price.  You can get one online at Zzounds for $300.

A great resource for tapers is http://taperssection.com/index.php. They have a forum on the Zoom H4 with quite a few posts. The web site also has forums on other equipment, mics, computer recording, and a host of other topics.

Feel free to use my membership to access the site. It is easy and free to join under your own name, of course. There are other web sites but this is one of the best I have found on the subject.

I know the going price for the recorder is $299 - so don't pay any more than that for it (not counting shipping / tax / etc of course).  Otherwise, it is a newer unit and I have no experience with it.  I have heard really good things about Samson's USB microphone though - so, that may be a plus in it's favor. . .

If you learn any more - let us all know.

I have checked with Sweetwater--a company I have dealt with before. Their price is $300, and they say they can't keep them in! Russ

I have seen it available at a number of other places (music123 and zzounds for example) and they had them in stock.  You may check them out if you are shopping for one.

I will send links next. . .
