Better late than never, here's me!

"What projects are you currently working on?"

I'm currently working on a set of super bright lights for my GF's crazy cargo bike. The rear light (completed) is 3x1 watt red LEDs, the front light will be 2x3 watt white. The end result should be a decent fraction of a car headlight in brightness.

Also in my project queue right now is a fish tank controller and a motorized projector screen.

"What have you made in the past?"

-Various bits of furniture( sewing table, tool chests, blanket chest, fancy boxes, DVD racks,  aquarium stand)
-POV bike kits, various clock kits
-3 axis CNC conversion on a G0619 milling machine
-Set of 5 really kickass speakers
-17'3" wood core fibreglass sea kayak
-MAME cabinet
-Tesla Coil

"What do you want to get out of VHS?"

Access to some tools I don't have (3d printer & laser cutter in particular). I also enjoy meeting other like minded people, and would love to work on some collaborative projects.

"How did you hear about VHS in the first place?"

Ages ago, through Luke C - probably at a juggling club event.

"If you could change one thing about VHS what would it be?"

I'd love it if the tools were labelled better - I've never really been clear on what tools (the 3d printers in particular) are members printers, and which ones are VHS printers.

"What tool is VHS missing?"

Some vacuum pumps and similar gear would be interesting.

Cheers,
Chris C.

Hello all,

My name is James Garry, an infrequent attendee stymied by Transit and other goings on.

What projects are you currently working on?

Trying to get my company to turn a profit (boo! boring!).
In doing so I'm resurrecting an Instron 1000 tensile/compression machine - a lovely 70s beast - and upgrading its motion control with LabVIEW.

What have you made in the past?
A car, an iaito, MAME-playing furniture, and some bits and bobs presently on Mars and Titan.
(www.bipbip.info/jg for nerdy details)

What do you want to get out of VHS?

Contacts with smart folk doing smart things. See, I have this absurd idea that with the accumulated mass of cleverness that is VHS there is scope for tackling some Big Problems. Not exactly sure what those are yet - no point in attempting something too vast to be possible. But one part of me wants to go hardware and build a desktop STM and try to nano-machine things, and one part of me wants to get all softwarey and collaborate to build something as smart as a slug or even a rat.
Otherwise some grey zaibatsu is going to create our robot overlords and where would we be then?

How did you hear about VHS in the first place?

Google.

If you could change one thing about VHS what would it be?
Maybe add a permanent-on Skype box so that folk can kibbitz without being there.
Oh, and more advance warning of events would be nice.
As would a permanent who's who and who-has-what-skills page.
What tool is VHS missing?
Pass.
