OK so you all have convinced me to start a blog - for us mainly as a way of journaling our moments - but hey it might get to where I want to share it with some of those nay sayer family members. What did it was reading some of your guys' blogs. So wonderful. So where do I start? I could just randomly pick a site to use but if anyone has one they particularly like for whatever features or ease of use I would love the suggestion.

Thanks so much!!!

I find Blogger to be incredibly user friendly, especially for the beginner. Once you have a grasp of what you want and what's available, there are other hosts with far more options that make no difference in the beginning ;) You can always cut and paste later -or- have your first draft blog published into a coffeetable book and begin again elsewhere.
And for ease of memory, a dot blogspot address is nice.
As a gmail user/google addict (I say Google is the best Big Brother I ever had!) the smooth transition between my services is a boon.

I like blogger.

Go and look at lots of blogs and see what's attractive and easy to use.
Some are listed on this page, and every one leads to others:

Here's a game I'm running on blogger:

I started off on Blogger (I'm a Google-head, too!) and eventually transitioned over to Wordpress, which I really enjoyed. I like the dashboard (the user's control panel) and the features of Wordpress better but both services will get you up and running pretty fast. Most blogging sites are free and easy to use. There are different visual schemes available through each service (called themes on Wordpress and templates on Blogger).

My starter blog (NOT for family to read) is with Blogger. My family-
friendly blog (the one where I translate what we do into educationese)
is with Xanga. There are pros and cons with each host, but I think
overall, I prefer Xanga.

I only started journaling our daily lives in April, but already I am
treasuring having those memories written down. I'd have forgotten
almost all of what I posted; instead, I am able to relive those
precious moments. Why didn't I do this years ago?!

Just lately my husband asked me when we bought our firewood, and I
was able to search my blog to find out, because I had photographed it
and written about it. So blogs can be accounting tools, too! If
you're being auditted you can refer to your blog to prove you spent
money certain ways, or something. <g>

One of the best things about blogs is that the writing isn't stored
on your own computer. Not only can you get to it and add to it or
edit from any computer, but if your own computer dies or is stolen,
the writing is still safe out wherever yahoo or google or someone has
backups in other states, so even natural disasters shouldn't destroy
webpage content.

I have journals and diaries from on and off over the years, and a
Word file diary (and one for each kid), all totally too long to
print. <g>

At least the word files are searchable, if fragile. I have
considered uploading them to either some file storage site, or onto
html pages that are just marked unsearchable, but that I can get to
(and leave the kids notes where they can get to them). You can make
an html page to keep the format of whatever you put in there. It's
not nearly as pretty, but it's still stored on some computer other
than your own.

I can't just show you here because it would take it out, but you put
PRE in pointy brackets before and after.
