The "Unauthorized Theology Pub" is an extension of Common Table Church, in Vienna VA and is administered by the Common Table iTeam. True to it's name, the "Pub" is not a good proxy for getting a temperature of what we individually or collectively believe. Rather, it is a good measurement of the kinds of questions and discussions which we not only tolerate, but embrace.
The pub is not a place to underestimate your audience ('assume very little' is a good rule of engagement), as professional clergy, staunch non-Christians, and critical religious thinkers from all over the country gather around a virtual brew. But everyone is friendly and a compelling question is always welcome.
Some general guidelines as we proceed...
1. We consider this to be a "safe place" for exploring matters of faith. So, pretty much anything goes here. Expect to see messages about faith, culture, God, personal concerns, relationships... pretty much anything. (For the exception, see item #4.)
2. Everyone is welcome. You don't have to be any particular age, demographic or religion. Since we see value in viewing God through each other's eyes, the more perspectives we have, the better. If you'd like to invite someone to join the conversation, feel free - all memebers have his power.
3. Everyone here is on a different journey of faith. We can help each other along in our journeys but we shouldn't expect that everyone is on the same path we are, so be respectful of each other and their place in the journey. Season your conversations with grace and we should be just fine!
4. No spam!! We all get enough of it already. :) For the purposes of this list, spam includes solicitations, jokes, recipes, cute stories and interesting anecdotes. We're more interested in your original thoughts, not a lot of forwards.
Thanks for joining the conversation - we look forward to where we will go together!
